1 It is indeed a great pleasure to see the department is bringing out the 2 nd edition of “E-GRID” maga- zine, which is the outcome of sin- cere efforts from Students and Staff of E&E dept. The depart- ment has always been on the forefront in marching towards ex- cellence. I hope the newsletter gains popularity and maintains high standard. The main purpose of this news letter is to share the achievements of the department students and faculties in the year 2013-14. This newsletter would encourage the faculties and students to bring more laurels to the department in future. The department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was estab- lished during the year 2008 and offers UG Programme. It has adequate infrastructural facilities which includes state of the art laboratories equipped with Electrical Machines, Power Electronics systems, Analog and Digital Electronics Systems, Measurement and Instrumentation Sys- tems, Control Systems, High Voltage and Relay. The department has Wireless Broadband Internet Connectivity upto 6MBPS. The department has well qualified and dedicated faculty mem- bers who are specialized in the fields of Power Systems, Industrial Drives, Energy Management, Industrial Electronics and Information Com- munication Technological areas. The department has also formed a students’ association called ‘e- SURGE. The vision of our association is TO INCULCATE BOTH TECHNICAL AND TECHNO-CULTURAL ACTIVITIES among the student fraternity. A technical talk on “POWER SYSTEM

PLANNING” by Sri.Shankar Sharma, Power

policy analyst, was organized on the 7th

August, 2013 for the Final Year Students.

The talk mainly focused on the Current

trends of the power system planning,

operation and control. The programme was

Prasad, Retd. Scientist, ISRO, was jointly or-

ganized with ECE on the 22nd of April, 2014.

The talk mainly revolved around the funda-

mentals of Space Science and astro physics.

The talk was targeted to the Pre-final year stu-

dents of EEE and ECE. The programme was

co-ordinated by Mr. Lokesh M, Asst. Prof, EEE

and Smt. Abhinetri K, Asst. Prof, ECE.

A technical talk on “MECHATROLINK” by

Mr. Seetharam, Sales Lead, YASKAWA

India, was organized on the 23rd of April,

2014 for the Pre-Final Year Students of EEE

and ECE. The main objective of the talk was

to bring awareness among the students

about the present practices in the field of

automation. The programme was co-

ordinated by Mr. Lokesh M, Asst. Prof, EEE

and Smt. Abhinetri K, Asst. Prof, ECE

A one day inter college workshop for

students on “ANDROID APP DEVEL-

OPMENT” by Soham Mondal and

Anktith Goyal (Google speakers) was

organized on 8th FEB 2014. The pro-

gramme was Co-ordinated by Mr. Am-

ruth R T., GSA President, Asst. Prof,

EEE and Mr. Bharath Raj Google Stu-

dent Ambassador, 6th Sem EEE.

Industrial Visit

Industrial visit to ATRIA Hydro Electric power

generating station, KRS Mysore was organ-

ized for 6th semester students on 21-03-

2014. The visit was aimed to enlighten the

students about the actual operation of a Hydro

power plant and 66kV substation together.

Faculty Development Programme An FDP on “Electrical design estimation and costing” by Er. K R Lakshmikantha, retd. CEE, KPTCL and former Principal KEBEA Kadakola and Er. B S Prabhakara, Retd. SEE, KPTCL, was organized on 28th Jan 2014 for the Faculties of Electrical Department of Vari-ous Colleges. The FDP was aimed at providing exposure about the vital basic aspects of op-eration, Safety measures, Earthing and construction practices which are in vogue for trans-mission and distribution system. The FDP was inaugurated by Chief Guest Er. S Ranga-raju, EEE, KPTCL, Mysore who in his speech stressed more on Safety measures during erection of HV transmission systems. The programme was inaugurated in a novel way by energizing a miniature model of transmission system and it was followed by two sessions of technical lecture and site visit to Koorgalli Industrial Area Mysore . The programme was presided over by Sri. M Sreepadarao , Hon. Secy. NIEIT , Mysore. The chief resource per-sons Engineers, G.S. Vishwanath, GM (Retd.) ,CESCOM, mys ore ,B S Prabhakara, SEE(Retd.) KPTCL and Dr.Usha Surendra I/C principal were present. The faculties from various engineering colleges belonging to Electrical & Electronics Engineering Depart-ment participated in the programme. The valedictory function was presided by Er. Athee-bulla Khan, EE, TL&SS division as chief guest and he spoke mainly on the need of good construction practices in the distribution system and he stressed the importance of Industry-Institution interaction. The programme was coordinated by Sri. Amruth R.T. , Asst. prof. EEE dept. and Sri. Mohan N. , Asst. prof. Dept of EEE.

thesis on “Robust optimization Techniques for Location

of FACTS Controllers to Improve Power System Stabil-

ity” Under the Guidance of Dr. S.S Parathasarathy.

• Sri. B S Srikanthan and Sri. Amruth R T have com-

pleted their Ph.D comprehensive viva voce under the

guidance of Dr. B J Ranganath.
