ROLE OF the DOI
• Coordinate academic agenda and schedule Liaise with all stakeholders
• Familiarize cadets with CELTT resource materialBuild rapport with cadets
• as EFL/ESL resource for language issuesWork closely with partner nation POCs
• Observe participant discussions and provide guidance for enhanced interaction
• Provide formal instruction as necessary to initiate/facilitate learning experiences

TEAM LEADER DUTIES
• ENSURE THAT:Cadets are ready to work
– On time– Appropriately attired– Fresh, energetic, enthusiastic
Adequate sleep/consider curfew
• Cadet Lesson Plan for the day—reviewed by CL and DOI• Materials ready? Handouts/music/video• Minimum of 1 discussion developed

TEAM LEADER TASKS
• Incorporate the DOI as a FULL TEAM MEMBER• Acknowledge as SME/classroom leader
• Assist the DOI with lesson planning• Attempt to learn (with DOI) level of proficiency of class• Work with DOI (HN POC) to adjust instructional level as needed• Watch for acceptable cadet:student ratio—4/5 to 1 is preferred• Lead daily review with DOI of cadet classroom performance
• Were students engaged?• Students placed in small groups• Cadets elaborating when a student speaks• Cadets asking for more info (not just yes/no answers)• Cadets helping with pronounciation

LESSONS LEARNED
• DOI in charge of the classroom• DOI/MC/CL communicate early and often• MC/CL ID the DOI to the Embassy• Use the textbook as a planning tool—not all inclusive• Skits/drama/etc are a force multiplier in learning• Ensure supplies are available• Know the English proficiency of the class• DOIs pay their own way—but can join in on freebies• DOI is part of the team and a huge resource
Treat accordingly---include in team activities as desired• Get a daily reflection from cadets to collect weekly
