Ammonihah some of the people believed Alma and Amulek’s message

and they began to repent and search the scriptures.

But most of the people desired to destroy Alma and Amulek. They were

angry because Alma and Amulek had testified plainly against their

wickedness. These people took Alma and Amulek, bound them with

cords, took them before their chief judge, and accused them of reviling

against their law and against the people of the land.

------------------------------------------------------------------- Zeezrom, who was one of Ammonihah’s most expert lawyers, was upset

when he saw the people falsely accusing Alma and Amulek. He felt

responsible for blinding the minds of the people with his lies. Zeezrom

defended Alma and Amulek before the people. The people became

angry at Zeezrom.

The people spit on Zeezrom and cast him out of the city. They also cast

out everyone else who believed the words that had been spoken by Alma

and Amulek, and they sent men to cast stones at them.

3. PEOPLE BURNED ALIVE IN AMMONIHAH The wicked people of Ammonihah then took all the people in the city

who believed in the word of God, and they also took the wives and

children of those they had cast out, and they threw them all into a fire

along with their records and scriptures.

4. HIGH PRIEST FORCED TO WATCH PEOPLE BURN Alma and Amulek were taken to the place where the people were being burned. The

evil people of the city wanted Alma and Amulek to witness the destruction of the

righteous. When Amulek saw the pain of the women and children he wanted to

exercise the power of God and save them from the flames. But Alma told Amulek

that the spirit was restraining him from doing so.

After the believers in Ammonihah had been consumed by the fire, the chief judge

delivered Alma and Amulek to be cast into prison. After three days in prison many

lawyers, judges, priests and teachers of the profession of Nehor came to the prison.

They questioned Alma and Amulek and spit upon them. They smote them and

threatened them with death by fire.

They took their clothes and withheld food and water from them. They mocked them

for many days, but Alma and Amulek did not respond to their questions.

After Alma and Amulek suffered for many days, the chief judge and many of

Ammonihah’s teachers and lawyers went to visit them again in prison. They each

smote Alma and Amulek.

The power of God then came upon Alma and Amulek. They stood upon their feet

and asked for strength from the Lord. They were given the power to break the cords

that bound them. After Alma and Amulek broke free from their bindings, the judge,

teachers, and lawyers began to flee. The fear of destruction came upon them. They

were so afraid that they fell to the earth and did not make it to the outer door of the

prison.

The earth shook, and the walls of the prison fell to the earth. Every

person inside the prison was slain except for Alma and Amulek.

When the people in Ammonihah heard the great noise of the prison

falling they came running to see what it was. When they saw Alma and

Amulek coming out of the prison, the people were struck with great fear

and fled from their presence.

Alma and Amulek were commanded by the Lord to leave the city of Ammonihah.

They went to the land of Sidom. In Sidom they found the people who had been cast

out of Ammonihah. Alma and Amulek were the sad bearers of the news of the

Alma and Amulek also found Zeezrom in Sidom. Zeezrom lay sick with a burning

fever which was caused from the anguish he felt for his sins. When Zeezrom saw

Alma and Amulek, he asked for them to heal him. Alma cried unto God that

Zeezrom would be healed according to Zeezrom’s faith in Christ.

When Alma said these words, Zeezrom leaped up and began to walk to the

astonishment of the all the people. Alma baptized Zeezrom, and from that time forth

Zeezrom preached to the people.

collapse. They desired to continue in their sins, so they justified their choice by saying

that the power and words of Alma and Amulek came from the devil.

There had been peace in the land for many years from the Lamanites, but suddenly and

unexpectedly the Lamanites came into the borders of the land. Before the Nephites

could raise an army to drive them out, every living soul in Ammonihah was destroyed,

along with their great city. In one day it was left desolate. So terrible was the smell of

death, nobody would live there for many years.

FRIENDS, AND FAMILY Amulek and the other converts had endured many tribulations. The

converts were thrust from their homes and many of their loved ones

were killed. Amulek was rejected by his father and by many who were

once his friends. He also sacrificed his riches to preach the gospel. Alma

took his friend Amulek to his own home, cared for him, and

strengthened him in his tribulation.
