The Papio father-daughter Indian tribe (isn't papio a Hawaiian word?) bad a freezing good time on Sunday, February 17. After HOT showers they met on rhc sand for Brunch, and acred like "savages", refueling.
Sara Howell is part of a group that meets twice a year to give each other very special gifts the members have hand crafted. For 20 years they have continued to stitch and chat and bounce creative ideas off one another. Several former island residents, "home" for the winter, joined them, and 18 of them enjoyed brunch.
Allene Richardson Suemori's sweet husband Jay Suemori and his romantic Ialani classmates of '73 have an Annual Valentine's Day Dinner for their significant others. A super dinner at OCC, with chocolate candy and favors all make a Big Deal. They need a better planner howe\·er, this year's 3rd annual romantic Valentine event was held on February 23. It i not too early to plan for 2003, guys. Li: will help you out.
Those PEO ladies just keep rolling along. Ginger Tornbom ho ted 80 of them to honor a vi mng national officer. Eight chapters of Hawau PEO gathered for a Saturday lunch in rhe Koa Lanai. About 20 OCC members arc part of this group, dedicated to philanthropic, educational acriviries, giving scholarships and encouraging young women in education.
Kaui Hemmings received a very prestigious literary fellowship to Stanford University in fictional writing. Way to go Kaui.
When PGA Tour Pro John Cook walked off Waialae CC after the second round of the 2002 Sony Open, he wrapped his arm around 10 year old Kainoa Gaddis and said, "Let's have lunch." That may be Kainoa's thrill of a lifetime considering John had just fired a 62 and put him on top of the leader board. Cook took second place overall. Kainoa's dad, Jim, caddied for the fomlCI' Ha~vaiian Open Championship in 1987. The Gaddis family spends time with the Cook family on the Koa Lanai during the Open week each year. jim and john will be fly fishing in Alaska in June.

VERY SPECIAL Reso r-t s & Ra tes
The OCC Softball team opened play in the Leahi League in late February. The league is packed with top notch teams. Games are hard fought and always come down to the last out.
Committee chairman Jim Gaddis and committee member Bill Kilcoyne continue to handle scheduling, field permits, entry fees, equipment, uniforms and awards. The team has decided to have a family BBQ at the last game of league play rather than to have a post season banquet. Jim, Bill, Aaron and Paki are your 2002 softball committee members. We always welcome new players. The summer season begins in July. Information is always posted in the Men's Locker Room.
f rom Poipu to Princeville
Led by Head Coach Aaron Eberhardt and Assistant Coach Paki Vaughan, the team has experienced disappointment in the late innings to carry a 2-3 win-loss record into April. Two of the losses came in the last inning with untimely hits and errors leading to OCC's demise.
Hopes are high to turn the season around with five games in April and playoffs in May. Of course, as you read this, the season has ended. Hopefully, OCC was able to bring home another Leahi League Championship.
Team pictures and statistics will be highlighted in next month's issue of The Outrigger. Thank you for supporting your team. Aloha

Reminder From The General Manager By John R. Rader Jr.
Summer is coming back to OCC, with warmer weather and longer days, and we'll see more families enjoying our wonderful beach and outdoor facilities.
Perhaps the biggest concern of the past summers has been the issue of unattended children playing in the sand and beach front, particularly during the evening dinner hours. There is no other restaurant in town where you arc allowed to let your small children loose to run between other diners tables.
The Hau Terrace is the busiest dining area of the Club during the popular evening hours, enjoyed by members of all ages. We are a family club, we encourage members with small children to come and enjoy themselves where they can dress casually, and can enjoy being outside and playing together.
However, this does nor mean running, screaming and mrowing sand. Your children must be under your supervision. They cannot run up and down the stairways and into the parking garage. We encourage parents to select tables closest to the sand so their children can play nearby. If you can't see them, you are not supervising them.
Any member who has problems with child behavior, theirs or other members, should discu this with me. We want everybody to be happy, bur with more than 4,000 members, we know we can't please e1•eryone. We can, however, be respectful of others, and remember the Hau Terrace is a restaurant, not a playing field.
Your keiki are our future paddlers, swimmers, and volleyball players. We want them to grow up loving and respecting the Club, and taking care of it, and each other.

Employee of the Month
kitchen sparkle.
Our Employee of the Month is Rhomy, aka Prodencio Mentac. He says his mother chose the nickname, and we appreciate that.
Rhomy is a kitchen utility worker, and really needs ro be appreciated, because he doesn't get off unril3 a.m. This is one of the reasons he was chosen for the Employee of the Month. There are not a lot of people that want that shif~, and he volunteered for it, when no one else would. He starts at 8:30 at night, when many of us are leaving the Club, and makes the
He loves to cook, enjoys the OCC, and has been with us for four years. He's worked a variety of places before, including the Princess Kaiulani, but says OCC is the best.
He is very proud of his family. His wife works at the Sheraton, his 23 year old son works at the airport, and his two daughters, 14 and I 5, are math whi:zes who attend Kalakaua Intermediate.
Thank you Rhomy, for cleaning up after our excellent cooks and kitchen sraff, and for staying so late to make sure it's right..
