Daily English taskNow let’s think about the middle of The Bad Tempered Ladybird. Remember, lots more things happen in the middle of the story than at the beginning and end. Today let’s think about when the Ladybird visits all the animals. You can watch the video again here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9O4AyQ0rVAwOnce you have finished watching the story please talk with a family member about:

- Who did the Ladybird meet after the wasp?

For the adults: Hold a Sentence

When we hold a sentence, first we repeat it with the child, lots of times and in silly voices. Then we count how many words we can hear in the sentence. Next, with the child’s help (for the sounds) we show them how to write it, reminding them to use capital letter and full stops. Finally, we cover up the example and then let the child have a go themselves. The child should be saying the sentence aloud as they write it

- What did the Ladybird want from the animals?- Where do you think the Ladybird is? A hot country or a cold country? Why?- When did the Ladybird meet the gorilla?- How did the Ladybird feel in front of the elephant? Why do you think that?- Why do you think the Ladybird did not fight the animals?

Now draw a picture of the Ladybird meeting an animal and then write a sentence about it. You could write about what it did, what it said or what the animal did or said.I like the part where the Ladybird meets the stag beetle.

I think I would writeThe beetle opened its jaws.Remember to say your sentence aloud first (lots of times so you don’t forget it!) then count the words in your sentence, then write each one listening to the sounds you can hear. Remember finger spaces!

For the adults: Independent writing

The children need to think it/say it/ write it. Please remember we don’t expect every word to be spelled correctly. The children should listen to the sounds they can hear and write those. It may look like this

The beetl opind its jors.
