YOUTH K-5: JAWS Group Swimming LessonsAges: 5-10 yr olds. Goggles and swim cap suggested.

Description: Youth classes are great for children who have not had the opportunity to learn to swim at a young age as well as for those that wish to become better swimmers. Designed for children to learn in an environment appropriate to their age and developmental level. Suggested age to begin this journey is between 5-6 years of age. Our lessons are divided into 3 class groups – beginner, intermediate & advanced. Each group is split into 2 levels with specifics goals.

Registration: Select the day/time of the class that best suits your schedule. Class level will be assigned by our instructors based on child’s ability on the first day.

BEGINNER: Designed for the very beginner swimmer, or those who are uncomfortable in the water. Instructors will work on basic water adjustment.

Level 1 – Face in the water, submerge and breathe control, front float and back float with/without assistance, glide on front 10-15 feet independently.Level 2 – Swim on front 10-5 feet, roll to back hold float for 5 seconds, recover to front float for 5 seconds, then

stand up with no assistance, and kick with a board on front and back.

INTERMEDIATE: Designed for the swimmer who is comfortable in the water, who has completed or can perform beginner youth skills.Level 3 – Swim front crawl with no breathing, rudimentary backstroke and sitting dive.Level 4 – Swim front crawl with rudimentary breathing, backstroke, jump feet first in deep water, knee dive.

ADVANCED: Designed for the swimmer who can comfortably swim front crawl and backstroke using over arm stroke in deepwater but who needs help with refining their strokes, learn the breaststroke, and butterfly. Advanced classes prepare your child for future aquatic adventures like water sports, boating sports, boy scouts swim badges or even their first job as a lifeguard. Children with higher levels of stroke technique, endurance and experience will gain more respect of the water environment and have a higher awareness with regards to water safety.

Level 5 – Swim front crawl with lateral breathing,

backstroke with body roll, breaststroke and/or dolphin

kick, knee dive and front flip.

Level 6 – Breaststroke and Butterfly arms, back flip and introduction to flip turns and starts.

Electric and Acoustic Guitar Instructor Ricky Hitchcock is a British recording session guitarist with over 15 years experience working with impressive clientele in Miami, FL, such as David Bowie, Billy Idol, Roger Daltry, as well as others! A digital recording studio is available to save your professionally mixed work forever. Skilled in songwriting, Ricky will teach you to compose your own original song.

Voice & Basic Piano Mirela Ungureanu-Biser holds a Master’s Degree in Opera and Music Theatre. She has more than 10 years of teaching experience including college-level courses as well as music theatre courses for both adults and youth at a professional repertory theater. She also performed as a singer with Opera Memphis for six seasons.

Drum Lessons John Hogan is a World Class / Dove Award Wining Drummer with over 20 years of experience as a Drum Coach. He studied at Berklee School of Music and has played to crowds of 25 to 25,000. Locally he finds himself busy as a “singer-songwriter’s drummer”, playing in jazz trios, and a variety of tribute bands such as Billy Joel & Stevie Wonder. John has influenced hundreds of drummers with a passion to develop the Drummer, the Musician, and the Artist in each student.

Partnership With Community School of the Arts - at the JCommunity School of the Arts welcomes you to its private music lesson program. With more than 330 students, the School is proud to have one of the largest private music programs in the region. Students may begin lessons at any time during our summer, fall or spring semesters. Here at the LJCC we are partnering with CSA to provide high quality private music instruction in piano, violin and voice. J-Tribes K–5th Graders & their Dads

J-Tribes is a father/child program designed to foster relations between fathers & their kids in a fun, exciting ways. Fathers/children are

paired with other fathers/children in ‘tribes’ up to 12 pairs. Monthly

meetings, plus “All-Tribe” programs including our annual Kickoff Pool Party, a Corn Maze, and

an overnight camping trip at Camp Blue Star in May.

Fee per school year: Member (child/father) $100

Non-Member (child/father) $150$50 per each additional child
