Allendale Students Attend Teen Entrepreneurship Summer AcademyFor the past ten years the Teen Entrepreneur Summer Academy (TESA), a program hosted through the Grand Valley State University Richard M. and Helen DeVos Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, has built high school students into budding entrepreneurs.
This year, two of the forty students taking part in the TESA camp will be from Allendale courtesy of a scholarship from the Allendale Area Chamber of Commerce. Benjamin Janes and Je�ery Idsinga, both incoming juniors at Allendale High School, will have the opportunity to attend the TESA camp. TESA is designed for high school students, and attracts students from across the state of Michigan. During the �ve day academy, teams of four to �ve students from di�erent schools formulate an original business pitch from the idea stage to a developed concept. On the �nal day, each team will present their idea to a panel of local business professionals for a chance to win cash prizes totaling $5,000! Business leaders from the Allendale Area Chamber of Commerce will provide ongoing support and mentorship to Ben and Je� as they continue to develop their business ideas. We are thrilled to have world-class resources available in our community and are committed to investing in the next generation of job creators.

Election Information: Tuesday, August 2 is the date for the Primary Election. You will be asked to vote for candidates running for elected positions at the township, county, state and federal levels of government and a county proposal for parks. The polling location is at 2nd Church located at 6950 Lake Michigan Drive. Polls will be open from 7 am - 8pm. Get to know the candidates and where they stand on issues. There are a number of resources available to help you learn the facts and be an informed voter. If you would like to preview your ballot prior to going to the polls, go to https://vote.michigan.gov/MVIC/. Candidate campaign signs may be put out 30 days before the election. For any other election issues, please contact the Township Clerk, Laurie Richards at (616) 895-6295 ext 6. Every Vote Counts!! Township Meeting: Agendas and minutes from Township meetings are posted on the Township website. The Township Board will meet on July 13, and 27, 2016. The community is always welcome to attend. Summertime Fire Prevention Tips: Outdoor Grills are a potential hazard for home �res. Please keep your grill a minimum of 3 to 4 feet away from the side of your house while cooking and while grill is cooling. Never leave your grill unattended. Grills stay hot long after you shut them down. Remember to turn o� the gas to the grill when �nished. This limits the potential fuel source if your grill catches on �re. Charcoal grills should never be used on wooden decks. If you have a grill �re, call 911 right away. Fire spreads quickly and doubles in size every minute. Notary Services: Free notary services are available at the Township O�ce. Remember ..... DO NOT PRE-SIGN your document before coming into the o�ce. You must sign your name in the presence of a notary. There is no charge for this service. Permits: Just a reminder that you do need permits for pools, fences, sheds, basement �nishes etc. For more information,call the Township o�ce at 895-6295 ext 1. Gravel Roads: Gravel Roads will be treated for dust control in July and August!
Picnic Shelter: One of the picnic shelters in the park can be reserved. Call the Township o�ce at 895-6295 for information. Dogs In the Park: Dogs in the park must be kept on a leash no longer that 6 feet in length. Also, PLEASE pick up after your dog. Severe Weather Siren: The severe weather siren installed in the park will be tested by the Ottawa County Sheri�’s Department Emergency Services the �rst Friday of each month at noon. Consumers Energy: To report a power outage or a streetlight that is not working, call Consumers Energy at 1-800-477-5050, or go to www.consumersenergy.com. To report a streetlight not working on Lake Michigan Dr. ONLY, call the Township O�ce at 895-6295. Solicitors: Peddlers and solicitors in the Township must carry a Township issued license. If a solicitor comes to your door and does not have a license, please call the Township o�ce and report it to one of the Community Policing O�cers. See the Township website for exceptions under General Law Ordinances... Solicitation Ordinance. Ottawa County Parks: For lots of information on things to do in Ottawa County go to www.miOttawa.org/parks. Scheduled events all summer long!!
Every week, Allendale Township O�cials and the Sheri�’s O�ce receive several resident complaints about parking in our neighborhoods. In an attempt to address citizen concerns, Township O�cials have been using “warning placards” and mass mailings in an attempt to educate residents about parking rules in hopes of voluntary compliance. There are two sources of parking restrictions; State Statute and Township Ordinances. Statute 257.674 prohibits parking in front of �re hydrants, blocking sidewalks, or in �re lanes to name a few. Statute 257.672 which states “Outside of the limits of a city or village, a vehicle shall not be stopped, parked, or left standing, attended or unattended, upon the paved or main traveled part of a highway, when it is possible to stop, park, or to leave the vehicle o� the paved or main traveled part of the highway.” The second source of parking restrictions is held under Allendale Township Zoning Ordinance Article 21 which restricts parking in family residential areas to the driveway only. Read the ordinance in its entirety at www.allendale-twp.org. E�ort has been placed on addressing complaints about chronic violations where residents park in the street on a continual basis, or cause some type of tra�c obstruction for �re apparatus or general tra�c. There is no intention to take enforcement action against residents or their guests who �nd themselves improperly parked for short durations of time during events such as family gatherings, etc. We are continually trying to balance the safety of the community, concerns of residents, and realities of parking needs.Please contact me if you have any concerns or questions.
