Hang On To Jesus! "Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, 'My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God'?" Isai-ah 40:27 Emotions are powerful. Emotions are real. Dictionary.com defines "emotion" as "any strong agitation of the feelings actuated by ex-periencing love, hate, fear, etc., and usually accompanied by cer-tain physiological changes, as increased heartbeat or respiration, and often overt manifestation, as crying or shaking." A friend of mine told me it felt like ten thousand volts of electricity went through his body the first time he touched his girlfriend's hand. The sudden news of an accident or death involving a loved one can paralyzed the body with shock, fear, and disbelief. "I don't think I'll ever get better." Lying side by side in our bed, I was cradling Kim's head with my left arm, her face buried in my chest, my right arm firmly wrapped around her, unwilling to let go. The darkness of our bedroom mirrored the darkness of our emo-tions. We shed silent tears as the realization of the inevitable dawned on us. What the doctors have said, the test results show-ing her cancer making a vicious comeback, her body weakening fast, we both knew. Hang on to Jesus (continued)

"But then I'll be completely healed," Kim said with a chuckle. "And I get to see

Mimi again," speaking about her mom who died a few years back. Our conver-

sation turned to our children and our grandchildren and how the Lord had been

so gracious through the years. Every step down memory lane showcased God's

goodness, grace, and love. Even the future looked bright knowing what Jesus

had said. "You must not let yourselves be distressed—you must hold on to your

faith in God and to your faith in me. There are many rooms in my Father’s

House. If there were not, should I have told you that I am going to prepare a

place for you? It is true that I am going away to prepare a place for you, but it

is just as true that I am coming again to welcome you into my own home, so

that you may be where I am" (John 14:1-3, Phillips).

"I know there is no marriage in heaven. But I will still sneak up and give you a

kiss," I teased her. "The Lord will see you. But I don't think He will mind," she

answered, "and I won't either."

The first thirty nine chapters of Isaiah speak of God's discipline on His people

and His judgment of the nations. The discipline seemed harsh, even unjust, be-

cause God told Israel that He was going to use pagan nations like Assyria and

Babylon to punish them. And when that discipline came Israel felt like she had

been abandoned by God. So she complained and whined. As we do today.

The relief for Israel did not come from a change of their circumstance. It came

from a change of their perspective about God. "Why would you ever complain,

O Jacob, or, whine, Israel, saying, 'God has lost track of me. He doesn’t care

what happens to me'? Don’t you know anything? Haven’t you been listening?

God doesn’t come and go. God lasts. He’s Creator of all you can see or imagine.

He doesn’t get tired out, doesn’t pause to catch his breath. And he knows eve-

rything, inside and out" (Isaiah 40:27-28, MSG).

Our relief will not come from a change in our circumstances. It will come from a

change of our perspective of God. God is not absent when things are hard.

God's love and grace are not diminished by our difficulties. And yes, our emo-

tions are real. But more real is God. His truth. His love. Believers are defined by

who Jesus is and who we are in Him. We are not defined by our emotions. So

we hang on to Jesus. And realize that He is the One hanging on to us.

So we trust God's Word. And we pray. And we live. Confidently. With hope. With

joy. With Christ.

Every Parent wants to raise great kids, yet often we fall short of our dreams. Sometimes we’re just too busy and distracted. Some of us had less than ideal role models. Some of us are working at it, but we just don’t have a good game plan. Are you willing to invest one day in order to empower your kids... forever? With God’s help and a plan, you can raise truly great kids. This conference is a grace-based, character-driven model to nurture con-fident and cooperative kids-and have a great time in the process.

Parenting is the biggest job you will ever do. Give it your best.

This fun, fast-paced conference delves into:

What it takes to raise kids in the midst of busy lives.

Practical ways to take the fear out and put the fun back into parenting

Preparing your child’s heart to re-ceive God’s plan

Turning heartache to hope with your rebellious child

How to bring out the best in your strong-willed child

Creating an environment of love and respect

Giving your child tools to practically deal with their culture

How to lead your child to be a great adult

When it comes to parenting, the days are long... but the years are short.
