Get those old medicines out of your cabinet

National Drug Take-Back Day Rid your home of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted medications by bringing them to the Drug Take-Back event for safe and conf t idential disposal. The service, hosted by the Lee’s SummiPolice Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Lee’s Summit Cares, is free and anonymous. No questions asked. Why not dispose of them yourself? Flushing pills down the toilet poses potential public health hazards, and if you throw them in the trash they can be retrieved and abused or sold. What can you bring? Prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, supplements, pet meds, etc. How can this help? Unused medicines are highly susceptible to mistakes, misuse, and abuse. Young children can be accidentally poisoned. Older children may be tempted to experiment. You can reduce the risk of medication errors by removing drugs from your home that are no longer needed or which have expired.
