Membrane manufacturing is at the heart of Pall Corporation and

is reflected in our wide range of products for Quality Control.

For years, Pall has pioneered the use of membrane technology

in hundreds of diverse applications. Through substantial R&D

investments and partnerships with leaders in the sciences,

the company has broadened its technology and market base.

Our media are optimized by application to ensure accurate

performance for all of our Quality Control membrane filters so you

have the confidence you need in your analysis. Our membranes

also offer exceptionally high recoveries, typically greater than 90%.

Pall membrane filtersoptimize your application

The MF Technique is accepted worldwide as an

effective method for analyzing aqueous solutions for

microbial or particulate contamination. It is approved

by the United States Environmental Protection

Agency (U.S.EPA) and other comparable agencies

around the world for the presence of Total and

Fecal Coliforms in drinking water. MF Technique is

also used in a variety of industries for heterotrophic

plate counts, fungal (yeast and mold) counts, and

for the isolation of specific organisms such as

E.coli , Pseudomonas sp., and Lactobacillus sp.

Requiring less preparation time than many other

traditional methods, the MF Technique allows

isolation and enumeration of microorganisms

while providing presence or absence information

in as little as 24 hours.

Using the MF Technique (as shown), a 100 mL

sample is passed through a 47 mm filter using a

filter funnel and vacuum system.Organisms in the

sample are concentrated on the surface of the

membrane. The filter is then placed into a Petri dish

on top of an absorbent pad soaked with nutrient

medium. The passage of nutrients through the filter

facilitates the growth of organisms on the upper

surface of the membrane.

Select from our complete membrane portfolio to suit your

application needs, including disc filters in black, white,

gridded, and non-gridded designs. Choose from a variety

of packaging options including sterile, individually

packaged S-packs, autoclave packs,or non-sterile

packs. Pall’s glass fiber membranes offer high flow

rates, wet strength, and solid holding capacities.

Pall’s individually packaged sterile membrane filters are

certified for bacterial analysis in accordance with the

Membrane Filter (MF) Technique, and the signed

certification can be kept as a permanent record.

Advantages• Permits concentration of large sample volumes.

• Reduces preparation time as compared to many traditional methods•  Allows isolation and enumeration of discrete colonies.

• Provides presence or absence information within 24 hours.

•  Allows for removal of inhibitory or biocidal agents that would not

be removed in Pour Plate, Spread Plate,or MPN techniques.

Many of the ubiquitous microorganisms in our environment have

simple requirements for growth that can be met by a range

of aqueous solutions. If left unnoticed, microorganisms can result

in spoilage of products, causing a significant economic loss to

the manufacturer. MicroFunnelTM filter funnels provide quality

assurance when testing for microbial contamination.

MicroFunnel filter funnels can be used with the MF Technique

to test any aqueous solution for microbial contamination. Choose

from 100 and 300 mL sizes in the widest range of filter funnel

configurations and membrane options available.New MicroFunnel

filter funnels include the “ST”version for sterility testing within

isolators, and the “Plus”version that combines sample cup and

filter funnel in one product.

Special Features

Easier to Use A simple squeeze separates funnel

from the base to access membrane.

Disposable

Increases the productivity and efficiency ofbusy laboratories that do not have time to

clean and sterilize reusable hardware.

Certified Each lot is certified for microbiological analysis

to provide added assurance of reliable results.

Easy and AccurateSample Measurement The 100 mL increment is marked completely

around the funnel for higher visibility.

Reliable Results Individually bagged, disposable filter units

prevent cross-contamination of samples.

Ready to Use Preassembled and sterilized by gamma

irradiation to eliminate the potential for toxic

extractables associated with EtO sterilization.

Rapid detection of culture contamination is important to protect valuable

biologics and cell lines and to prevent cross-contamination to other lines.

The most common cause of overlooked contamination is Mycoplasma,

but other bacteria may also cause a “silent”infection in the presence

of antibiotics. It is critical that the spread of these silent infections

be prevented.

The MTC-NI Rapid Mycoplasma Detection Kit uses an all-bacterial DNA

probe that detects Mycoplasma and Acholeplasma species as well as

any other prokaryotic species that commonly infect tissue culture cell

lines. Contamination of cell cultures could be disastrous, resulting in loss

of valuable research work, production time, and batches of biologics.

Unlike standard bacterial contamination which becomes obvious in a

short time frame, Mycoplasma contamination can go undetected for

up to 3 weeks, the traditional time required to culture it to a detectable

level. Monitoring cell cultures on a routine basis with the MTC-NI Kit

can help identify the source of contamination early, thus preventing

future cross-contamination from occurring.

Special Features

Rapid Detection Results are available in 75 minutes while PCR

and ELISA technologies take at least 2-4 hours.

Simple Protocol Simple aseptic laboratory techniques are utilized

in the assay-pipetting,vortexing, and timed

incubation.Save money and time because there

is no need for training on advanced techniques

or complicated procedures.

No Wash Steps The sample is prepared in a microcentrifuge tube

and all of the remaining analysis is performed

in the DNA probe tube,so there is no need to

transfer to additional tubes or solid substrates.

Now offering Mycoplasmadetection in 75 minutes

Convenient media package designs improve productivity in busy labs.

Pall Life Sciences media comes in ready-to-use 2 mL glass ampoules,

plastic ampoules, and 100 mL bottles. The 2 mL glass ampoules are

available with standard or wide-mouth openings.Wide mouth ampoules

offer much easier pouring of nutrient media without having to shake the

vial to remove the broth. The plastic ampoules provide the convenience

of a range of broths in easy-open ampoules with no glass breakage.

These premeasured 2 mL ampoules easily dispense into standard Petri

dishes and are ideal for use with MicroFunnel filter funnels. For busy

labs, Pall offers 100 mL bottles with enough media for 50 tests.

Whether you’re filtering multiple samples or just one at a

time, Pall has devices that will make it easier for you.Our

Vacuum/Pressure Pumps are now smaller and lighter weight

than many other manufacturers. These compact pumps take

up less space in the lab. Plus, they use a diaphragm for

cleaner, quieter operation. The Hand Operated Vacuum Pump

is ideal for analysis outside of the laboratory.

Protect valves and pump devices from damage due to liquids

with VacushieldTM Vent Devices. These devices are used between

the pump and receiving vessel for highly effective retention of

bacteria without restricting pump performance.

Increase laboratory efficiency by choosing one of Pall’s convenient

1-, 3- or 6-place aluminum manifolds for filtering.Or, for tight

work areas, the smaller 3-place polyurethane manifold is ideal.
