5 Tips to Remove VirusAnd Malware on Your Android

A phone runs smoothly whenit is protected against all prob-lematic issues. It is essential toavoid certain apps than mayaffect the phone software com-pletely.

Like any other system,Android also keeps a check ondifferent apps that are availableto play safe. But few still getsa chance to trespass the safetyline. There are few basic stepsthat will keep virus andmalware away from your An-droid.1. If you don’t know whatit is, don’t install it.There are several links andmessages that highlight to anapp to get downloaded. It isimportant to check whether theapp is popular enough to getinstalled. The apk files for An-

droid applications might sendshaky messages or pop-ups invarious forums around theInternet, one would never knowwhat hacker puts in store. Ifyou don’t know what it is orwhere it is coming from, it isbest to avoid it.2. Only install from GooglePlay or other reputable appstores. It is always advised to take aprecaution before runningaround for it to cure. Thisshould also be considered whileinstalling certain apps. The lo-cation from where apps aredownloaded should be in safetyand comfort. Random down-load locations on the Internetand anything that promises paidapps for free is suspicious.

It is recommended toclearly download apps fromGoogle Play or related appstores like Amazon Appstore.

3. Uncheck ‘Install fromunknown sources.’ EveryAndroid phone that has accessto Google Play, by default, hasa lock system that keeps ex-ternal applications from install-ing themselves. It’s a safetyfeature that one should followit strictly. Enabling the option“verify apps from unknownsources” under Settings willlock all applications from out-side.4. Read the permissions. When any app is installed, whether from Google Play orany other store, the app willdeclare permissions - permis-sion to access other options onthe phone. There are somegood apps that will list the rea-sons in their app it may requiresuch accessibility. But still theuser should be careful withsuch instructions. For example, the wallpaper may require ac-

cess to the Internet and cam-era but not a keystroke.5. Use a Virus ScannerThough Google scans every-thing that goes through GooglePlay, it might not be a 100 per-

cent foolproof. It is better toinstall anti-virus app that has areputable brand and is loadedwith bunch of extra features likethe ability to find the locationof the phone.

EDITORIAL.....In hosting World Cup 2014,

Brazil could learn a lot from IndiaWith only two weeks to go beforefootball's 2014 World Cup kicks offin Brazil, one cannot escape thesense of deja vu. Despite beinggeographically separated by 9,000miles and a much greater distancein football pedigree, we Indiansfeel a secret kinship with the Bra-zilians as they guzzle down theircachaca and undertake last-minutepreparations. Whether the localbrew is strong enough to tackle thedaunting workload remains to beseen.

Four of the 12 stadiumsbeing prepared are yet to be fin-ished. Add to this budget overrunsand pesky protesters waving redcards over trivial things like diver-sion of taxpayers' money ear-marked to improve schools andhospitals. It just so happens weIndians are past masters at divert-ing funds and leaving things undoneat the eleventh hour. Take our glo-rious performance in the 2010Delhi Commonwealth Games, captained by the likes of SureshKalmadi and Lalit Bhanot. Thesecret behind that organisationalmarvel was the same that drivesany good centre-forward — posi-tive attitude. Brazilian organisersfretting over team accommoda-tions? No sweat. Ask Indian sportsofficials who will vociferously af-firm that hygiene standards are amatter of perception. Residentsangry over constructing a footballstadium worth millions of dollarsin a place that doesn't even have alocal club team? Just tell them theycan use it for weddings and othersocial gatherings. Anti-World Cupgraffiti turning up overnight acrosscities? Look at it as beautification

to add to the festive atmos-phere.Free kicks aren't won on foulsalone — a bit of diving and actingcannot be discounted altogether,wink-wink.

But let's not get distractedfrom the on-field action. Withmuch riding on the performance ofthe home team, the Selecao wouldtake a lot of heart from global fi-nancial powerhouse GoldmanSachs predicting a Brazil victoryin the World Cup final. Moreover, renowned physicist and cosmolo-gist Stephen Hawking has appliedhis genius to predict that England'sbest chances of winning the cov-eted tournament lie in donning redjerseys and picking a team packedwith bald or fair-headed players.

That said, one cannotoverlook the strong African con-tingent. The five teams from thatcontinent not only boast of talentedplayers but are also powered bypassionate fans and their deep be-lief in juju. The Spanish Furia Rojamay have lost some heat, but asdefending champions they will cer-tainly spice up the tournament.Meanwhile, ice-cool Germany ismore than capable of mountinganother blitzkrieg.

Given the tough competi-tion, there's reason to believe thatthe football-crazy people of Brazilwill forgive all if the home teamgoes all the way and lifts the 2014World Cup trophy. Perhaps that'sthe real message behind the pro-tests. Brazilians are not angry thatbillions of dollars have been spent;it's just a stern warning to TeamBrazil that they better win theWorld Cup to make up for the ex-pense.

Higher sugary drinkconsumption also leads todecrease levels of a folliclestimulating hormone, or FSH,which helps in production ofsperm. The study, however, found that both lean andobese men, who consumedthe most sugary drinks hadlowered FSH levels.

Mamata, Modi govtstalk as TMC, BJP battle

NEW DELHI: The BJP ver-sus Trinamool Congress po-litical battle may have inten-sified in West Bengal, withBJP trying to fill the space fora political alternative in thestate after its vote share wentup in the Lok Sabha pollsfrom 6% to 17%, but theMamata Banerjee govern-ment in Kolkata is makingefforts to mend its fenceswith the Narendra Modi re-gime at the Centre.

West Bengal financeminister Amit Mitra called upUnion finance minister ArunJaitley recently and the two,who have known each otherfrom Mitra's days in Delhi, are learnt to have had a cor-dial conversation. This comessoon after Mamata deputedMitra and TMC general sec-retary and Rajya Sabha mem-ber Mukul Roy to attendModi's swearing in, eventhough she kept away amidtalk that she would ask herMPs to boycott the function.

Considering Mamataand Modi fought it out bitterlyduring the election campaign, the Bengal CM seems tohave dropped her oppositionto the Modi government andMitra's call to Jaitley is being

seen as the first major indi-cation of the thaw.

The chat will be fol-lowed up by a meeting be-tween the two finance minis-ters after the short Parliamentsession gets over on June 11.It is expected that there willbe greater interaction be-tween central and state bu-reaucrats, even as Mamatamay not immediately commu-nicate with Modi, in the man-ner that Tamil Nadu CM JJayalalithaa and Odisha CMNaveen Patnaik have done.

While BJP is onlygetting more aggressive inBengal and will continue to doso, with the hope that it canbuild upon its gains in the up-coming municipal electionsand the assembly electionsslated in 2016, Modi has beentalking about developing

states in the interest of nationbuilding. So, just as he wouldlike to have the Mamata gov-ernment on board on variousissues, even the CM will needthe Centre to deliver on theground before she faces thenext assembly polls.

The fact that BJPneeds numbers in RajyaSabha is also seen as a rea-son for the Modi governmentto be dealing in a fair mannerwith most state governments, ruled by parties other thanCongress or BJP.

Hence, tactically itsuits both Mamata as well asModi to keep the constitu-tional relationship betweenthe Centre and the state go-ing, especially with Modi talk-ing about correcting the fed-eral system of governance inthe country.
