    24th Sunday in Ordinary Time - September 11, 2011Forgive your neighbor's injustice;

then when you pray, your own sins will be forgiven. -- Sirach 28:2First Reading -- Remember the commandments and hate not your neighbor (Sirach 27:30 -- 28:9).Psalm 103 -- The Lord is kind and merciful, slow to anger, and rich in compassion.Second Reading -- Whether we live, or whether we die, we do so for the Lord (Romans 14:7-9).Gospel -- Forgive one another from your heart (Matthew 18:21-35).

FORGIVENESSNearly ten years before, a son and father had parted ways when the business they shared went

bankrupt. The son blamed the father. They did not speak to each other again. Then the father be-came seriously ill. The mother called the son and told him he had better come soon. The sonwalked sheepishly into the hospital room. The father motioned his son to him and whispered: "Didyou ever think you could do anything that would keep me from loving you?"

Resentment and anger are foul things, the first reading from Sirach tells us. Remember the lastthings. Stop hating. Live by the commandments. As St. Paul writes to the Romans, we are to live

for the Lord and die for the Lord. For us Americans on the tenth anniversary ofSeptember 11,2001, forgiveness still does not come easily. Yet Jesus' parable in today's Gospel reminds us ofGod's compassion. The immense sin of humanity has been forgiven and stricken from the record. We are to forgive others in the same way.

25th Sunday in Ordinary Time, September 18How different are the Lords ways from our own (Is.

55:6-9)! Gracious and good to all (Psalm 145), the Lordis equally generous in compassion and love to those whoare quick to respond to his invitation, as well as to thosewho are slow to hear his call (Matthew 20:1-16a).

May God bless you for your contin-ued support of our church.

Que Dios les bendiga por su apoyogeneroso.

SECOND COLLECTIONTodays second collection is for theOngoing Faith Formation Fund.

STOP AND THINKSome of us come to Mass and try notto get involved. We hang back formany reasons: fear we will be pres-sured into long-term commitments,or we will be asked to do what wehave no aptitude for. Reluctant vol-

unteers may be generousin other ways, through theweekly collection or dona-tions to good causes. Areyou hesitant to volunteer? What are your God-givenabilities? Are you a leader, a teamplayer, or a behind-the-scenesworker? Are you sick, homebound, ora frequent traveler? You can praymore. There is something only youcan do for your parish! Are you aministry leader? Do you communi-cate to parishioners the value of

what you do? Are you welcoming andappreciative to new people? If youare a volunteer, do you share yourenthusiasm with other parishionersand invite them to join you? Our par-ish survives if only a few are commit-ted, but it thrives if everyone is in-cluded.

LIVING STEWARDSHIP NOWHave you committed your abilities, your time, and your financial re-sources to your parish for God andthe Church? Is your involvement a

true reflection of your gratitude toGod? Do you need to give more, orgive differently?

FIESTA DE LA FELa paz sea contigo
