The global industry sales are USD $ 3.5 Trillion, this is FOUT TIMES the combined GDP of GCC nations that employs 10 million directly and 50 million indirectly. IS interesting that there are 60,000 European companies that employ 1.2 million people, standing second to pharma industry in terms of added-value per employee and more than 80% higher than the combined added-value of all manufacturing sectors.

The Gulf countries chemicals production, currently is at the level of USD $ 40 bnand by 2020 will reach USD $ 80 bn in a business-as-usual scenario. However, by 2020 the region’s industry plans to reach USD $ 200 bn to gain a rightful position as a pillar in the industry. Several Middle East companies such as Aramco, Sabic, Borouge and Abu Dhabi National Chemiclas Company are increasing on investment and performance in polymers and petrochemicals.

According to Gulf Petrochemicals and Chemicals Association, the polyethylene production capacity in the Middle East will increase from 10.7 MMT in 2009 to 21.5 MMT by the year 2015, an increase of slightly more than 100 per cent. Similarly, the production capacity of polypropylene will increase from 4.8 MMT in 2009 to 9.5 MMT by year 2015, an increase of 98 per cent. This will bring the combined production capacities of the two major polyolefin resins to more than 31 MMT by the year 2015.
