For more than 10 years – routinely tested quality!More than 10 years ago Wieland started to manufacture gesis RAN distribution boxes for the remote supply and automation of buildings. The focus has always been put on efficient on-site installation.

Every single distribution box is tested before it is delivered to the construction site in order to prevent the need of trouble-shooting after installation. This results mainly in considerably increased planning reliability in the scheduling of the required tasks.

Customized manufacturing according to your requirementsEven though the requirements of non-residential buildings are similar, each application is unique in its details. From the required functions in the rooms, through the possible installation space of the distribution boxes and their maximum dimensions, to the connection technology – the requirements are always different.

For this reason the distribution boxes are manufactured individually for each project. All parameters are set with complete flexibility. Whether you require a small, flexible distribution system for the supply of remote consumer devices, or a large distribution box with integrated room automation for the supply and control of larger industrial areas and various trades: everything is possible and will be optimized and delivered according to your requirements.

Overvoltage protection – safety put into practiceProtection against overvoltage is becoming more and more important due to the generally increasing complexity and the resulting increased value of the infrastructure. The remote distribution box is the ideal location for this task. Here you can implement optimal protection as required.

distributed building automation The main reason for developing standardized bus systems in buildings was a structured installation, shorter cables and smaller mechanical rooms in addition to more user-friendliness and energy conservation. All this can be guaranteed only by positioning the appropriate sensors and actuators in remote locations.

The gesis RAN distribution box has been optimized particularly for this application. It can be equipped with specified components from various manufacturers which are combined to form a room automation controller. Wieland also offers its own, modular components based on KNX or LON which can be used inside the distribution box.

Combined with the gesis connector system and the unit testing it results in an ideal solution for a time and cost optimized implementation of remote building automation for modern, flexible commercial buildings.

Customized per your specificationsThe gesis RAN distribution boxes are manufactured according to the customer’s preference. First of all, the electronic functionality is selected, then the type and number of connectors are determined, and finally the markings for the inputs and outputs are attached.

Wieland manufactures these distribution boxes as complete unitsThe housings are manufactured; the desired electronics and connectors are integrated; the boxes are wired and the finished distribution box undergoes electrical testing. The pre-assembled units are then quickly installed on site and connected correctly.

DIN rail terminal blocks are the standard connection component in all areas of electrical engineering. Both in mechanical engineering and in power supply applications, DIN rail terminal blocks are used for signal and power distribution as well as for the conventional electrical installation of buildings.

dimensions according to project and requirementsAs the distribution box is always installed in a different location, there are always different requirements with regard to its dimensions. Therefore the gesis RAN distribution box can be produced in nearly all imaginable dimensions.

For extreme requirements (for example in low false floors) the distribution box can be equipped with the gesis KNX/LON RM system making a minimal height of 55 mm possible.

For use in smaller projects with quantities below 20 pieces per type we also offer modular housing systems, where sheet steel distribution housings make economic sense.

The task determines the distribution unitUse of a sheet steel distribution unit is not always economical or sensible. Therefore Wieland provides the suitable distribution unit depending on the requirements.

The so-called Black Box was designed for smaller, pluggable power distribution functions or pre- assembled, pluggable switching functions. It can be used, for example, to distribute three-phase power with dynamic phase position within the building, or to implement completely pre-assembled alternating switching.

If the maximum of 8 pluggable connectors in the Black Box is no longer sufficient, the Gray Box is used which is equipped with up to 12 pluggable connectors.

Both of these distribution boxes are designed with plastic housings and fixed dimensions.

For any other applications sheet steel distribution boxes with variable dimensions are used. Inside the gesis RAN even remote protection and components for room automation can be installed. Furthermore the distribution unit is available with various connection techniques.

The LON RM base module manages up to four extension modules. The extension modules are connected with a flat cable (packaged with the extension modules) to the base module. Independent of the number of extension modules the module counts as one LON node.

A base module can be connected to the power supply unit. The base module and, through it, also the extension modules are supplied with power.

Two base modules can be connected to the power supply unit. The base module and, through it, also the extension modules are supplied with power.

The KNX RM base module manages up to four extension modules. The extension modules are connected with a flat cable (packaged with the extension modules) to the base module. Independent of the number of extension modules the module counts as one physical address.

The radio input can manage 2 groups of eight inputs each. One slot per group is required on the base module. The radio sensors (e.g. pushbuttons) are assigned directly on the module without any additional software (EnOcean programming mode).

The 868.6 MHz antenna is suitable for connection to Wieland gesis devices with SMA socket. The black antenna can be fastened with a magnetic foot and has a 2.5 m connection cable.

The 4-fold switching output has four independently controllable relays. Strict isolation of the relay outputs enables connection of various phase conductors.

Eight independent potential-free contacts can be connected to the binary input. The scanning voltage of 12 V DC is provided by the module.

The semiconductor switch is used to control four isolated circuits, for example electrothermal valves. As it is capable of switching 24 V to 230 V AC or DC, it is ideally suited to avoid planning mistakes.

The DALI output has two isolated output circuits. These are used as a master and control the maximum of 8 connected EBs via broadcast commands. Error feedback is possible for each output.

GST 18 product groupThe components of the GST 18 product line are certified according to IEC 61535:2009 (DIN VDE 606-200) and are suited for the installation of lighting systems, switches and outlets.

They are available with three, four, five and six poles and are designed for rated voltages of 250 V or 250/400 V, 16 A.

BST 14 product groupThree complete connector systems are available for the transmission of signal voltages with 2 or 3 poles. These systems differ in their mechanical codings and can be unambiguously assigned due to the distinct coloring.

The BST14 system is particularly characterized by its user-friendliness and compact design.

gesis flat cable systemsThe concentration of even more power in one cable considerably reduces the costs involved with cabling. The Wieland power system is based on a flat cable with cross sections of 2.5, 10 and 16 mm². The flat cable's flexibility guarantees an easy cable layout.

The already existing infrastructure can be used for this which reduces the costs considerably. The power can be tapped off at any position without having to cut the cable. The proven piercing technology enables up to 32 A tap-offs. Distribution boxes with integrated fuses and GST 18 pluggable outputs provide a perfect and complementary solution to the power line system.

low voltage systemsThe system can also be deployed in low voltage applications. It is possible to directly change over to the two distinct low-voltage ranges ST16 or ST17 via pluggable electronic transformers.

Creating documents and layoutsFulfilling the specification

Flexible use of a building requires more than just a flexible design and construction. The documentation of the building’s systems must also meet these requirements. Documenting the integrated components plays a major role in this.

We create the design and wiring plans for each individual distribution box. Here, all descriptions of inputs and outputs as well as any information about the installation site are documented. In doing so we put our focus on your preferences and specifications. You will receive complete documentation for your system which you can use to plan any tests, maintenance and extensions in advance without having to take inventory on site.

This will create planning reliability throughout the entire lifecycle of the building.

gesis®PLAN – 3d PresentationA vision of the layout

The demonstration and planning software gesis PLAN is a tool which you can use to conveniently design and calculate pluggable electrical installations with gesis. The software supports technical planners as well as system integrators, architects and owners in planning the electrical systems of their buildings

The software imports the available AutoCAD drawings of the rooms and building segments to be constructed. Required devices such as lighting fixtures, outlets, or sunblinds in the 3D views on the PC; with only a few mouse clicks they are wired with gesis ELECTRONIC components, gesis RAN distribution boxes and gesis flat cables. The recommended connector codings are selected automatically while compliance with the standards is checked. The installation is also calculated with regard to permissible currents, voltage drops or selectivity. Any possible problems are displayed immediately. The designer receives an application specific bill of materials, with accurately calculated cable lengths and pricing information.

The gesis PLAN software is an effective planning guide for spec-grade commercial buildings, as well as user-owned facilities. Both require flexibility over the life of the building, as well as effective facility management. The usefulness of the software extends beyond new construction, too. Its exact calculations support reliable planning in advance even for renovation of buildings. Without any special knowledge the user can start right away; software wizards will guide the user unerringly through the various screens.

The unique and convenient solution considers not only the electrotechnical installation requirements, but can also simulate room conditions caused by beams, additional walls, columns, etc., and take them into consideration automatically for cabling.

In this process Wieland can rely upon its long experience in project management. It is possible to plan not only individual rooms, but also entire floors and complete buildings.

The batteryless EnOcean radio technology is used forpushbuttons and window contacts. The switching commands and messages are integrated into the LON network using the EnOcean-LON gateway. In this case the gateway can manage more than two offices.
