MG Insurance Services Ltd was formed as the insurance division for the MG Owners Club in 1984 and specialised in providing MG insurance for their club members.

In 1989 as the popularity and demand for classic car insurance grew, the then owner, Roche Bentley, decided to arrange insurance for a wider variety of classic cars. He had a passion not only for classics, but for airborne beauties as well, which meant the MG Insurance division was reborn as Lancaster Insurance Services Ltd.

Our client base was continually increasing, providing a great opportunity to promote other insurance services and by 1996, a comprehensive suite of general insurance services were also available.

In 2000, we launched an online quotation system which allowed classic car owners to generate a quote and insure their vehicles via our website. Our product was classic but our approach was modern.

In 2013 Lancaster Insurance Services Ltd was acquired by the Markerstudy Group of Companies and we haven’t looked back since. We remain fully committed to maintaining our expertise and service excellence. Being part of Markerstudy allows us to enhance the value we offer in all areas of our business.

It has been a busy and exciting 30 years and here’s to the next 30!

Born out of a passion for classic cars, Lancaster Insurance Services Ltd is proud to be at the heart of the industry, specialising in arranging classic car insurance, in addition to a range of other general insurance products.

We live and breathe classics and this is evidenced by our sponsorship of the UK’s largest classic car event again in 2014, the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show.

Using our carefully selected panel of insurers, and network of car clubs, we strive to create the best schemes, to provide our customers with the perfect policy.

This year we celebrated our 30th birthday and our desire for giving our customers the right cover is as strong as the day we started. We like to think of ourselves as a bit of a classic, and look forward to the next 30 years, nurturing relationships and building our brand to be the best it can possibly be.

The team here at Lancaster Insurance are not only classic fanatics, they are passionate about our business and we hope that our commitment shines through. We truly understand our customers’ needs and expectations.

At Lancaster, we love to support classic car events and try to get involved as much as possible. 2014 has been an incredible year and we want to share with you some of our highlights. Whether it is through sponsorship, or attending the events, we are keen to keep our fingers on the pulse.

Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show

As headline sponsors for the second year running, we went all out with the ‘Big Screen’ theme, bringing you iconic cars such as Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters, K.I.T.T. from Knightrider and Back to the Future’s DeLorean. “ The company was born in 1984, when great films like Beverly Hills Cop, Indiana Jones and Ghostbusters were topping the billboards. To celebrate our 30th anniversary, it only seemed right that our stand should be inspired by the ‘80s. The ‘Big Screen’ evokes images of escapism, splendour and glamour, and our stand provided visitors with the perfect opportunity to embrace their ‘star quality’, with a Hollywood premiere style red carpet, complete with ‘paps’. ” Richard Morley, Operations Director for Lancaster Insurance. As headline sponsor, we also had a ‘mini adventure’ with the addition of a 1990 ‘H’ reg Mini called ‘Henry’ and two tiny Peels (the world’s smallest car!) on the stand. Remember to keep tweeting your #miniselfie to @Lancaster_Ins The show was a great opportunity for us to showcase our offering, share stories and engage with our customers and car clubs. It is an honour to be able to sponsor such a prestigious event again.

On 28th September 2014, MG owners were out in force for the Swansea MG Enthusiasts’ annual Brecon Beacons Road Run, travelling 100 miles across the Brecon Beacons National Park to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Support Group in Swansea. Lancaster Insurance went back to its roots and sponsored the rally boards and goody bags and the day was a huge success, raising £1,700 for the charity.

We’re very pleased to have supported this event. It gets more successful every year and offers people a wonderful opportunity to enjoy driving their MGs for a great cause. C L A S S I C SOur passion for classics runs deep and we try to support owners of classics in all their ventures, whether it be a restoration project or the road trip of a life time.

Friends Reunited

Staff at Lancaster Insurance were delighted to be able to help one of their customers surprise her husband for their wedding anniversary by reuniting him with the car that they had used on their wedding day.

Zoe Snell was desperate to track down the MG Midget that carried her and her husband, Terry, to and from the ceremony almost 40 years ago. With the help of Lise Alexander-Smith, Underwriting Manager at Lancaster Insurance, Zoe managed to contact the current owner, Graham Bird, and secretly arranged to reunite her husband with the 1966 classic which still holds so many memories for them both. The meet took place on Saturday 30th August, and Zoe had her husband Terry completely fooled until the last minute.

“ My husband Terry has always wondered what happened to the car and has been desperately trying to track it down himself for years. It was really exciting covertly arranging it all and surprising him. We are so happy it has been in the same hands for such a long time, and without a doubt, respected and loved. I want to offer my thanks to Graham for making it all possible; it was lovely to see it again, we had a wonderful day. ” Zoe Snell

“ Zoe’s appeal really pulled at our heart strings and we’re so happy to have been able to help. It’s great to see that the car has been dearly loved by Graham and amazing to see the memories this MG Midget still evokes in people years down the line. We’re delighted that Zoe and Terry enjoyed their day. ” Richard Morley, Operations Director for Lancaster Insurance.

Les, who has suffered from the disease for the past five years, battled long days and searing heat to complete the 4,080 mile journey with his wife, Therese and grandson, Daniel. The trip began on 3rd August 2014 and took 14 days to complete, driving an average of 314 miles per day and using over 398 gallons of fuel.

Les said “It’s the most amazing, surreal thing I’ve ever done. I can’t explain why it’s such a buzz to drive that route. I’m so relieved that we completed it but we’re all completely exhausted. I’m so pleased that even at this stage of Parkinson’s disease, I still managed it. I couldn’t have done it without the incredible support of Therese, Daniel, family and friends.”

Lancaster Insurance’s Car Club Relationship Manager, Andrew Misseldine, said:

Les is a fellow classic car enthusiast, and we’re proud to have been able to help him towards his target - it’s such a fantastic cause. The team at Lancaster are thrilled that Les completed his trip and raised so much money. We wish him and his family all the best for the future.

Then...and now!

Lancaster help customer towards target for USA charity road trip

Staff from Lancaster Insurance clubbed together to raise £275 for customer Les Durrant, from Chester, who embarked on a charity road trip across America. The fundraising took place on the 27th June, at the Lancaster offices in St Ives, Cambridge, where activities included a Where’s Wally quiz, raffle, 1980’s fancy dress, a ‘bake off ’ plus Space Invaders and Pacman themed games.

Staff at Lancaster Insurance offered their congratulations to Les after he completed the charity road trip along Route 66 in a classic Ford Mustang, raising over £12,500 for Parkinson’s disease.

S U P P O R T I N G C A R C L U B SLancaster Insurance has enjoyed three decades of working with classic car clubs and arranging insurance for members. We share a strong affinity with the clubs and truly appreciate the enthusiasm they generate for all makes and models of classic cars. Car clubs bring people together from all walks of life to share a common passion.

Meet our Car Club relationship Manager, Andrew.

What was your first car? An 1984 Austin Metro in white.

Your dream car as a teenager? This has to be the Lamborghini Countach LP500S.

Ever broken down? Yes - snapped a cambelt on my Triumph Acclaim whilst doing 70mph. Luckily the engine was still in one piece afterwards.

Most memorable road trip you have taken? Check out my roadtrip story on www.lovemyclassic.com, this is how I really got in to cars. Also driving down the Pacific Coast Road in America was one to remember.

You can only have one brand of car for the rest of your life, what would it be and why? If money was no object, Aston Martin as they represent everything that is great about British sports cars. They are classy, stylish and sound amazing. If money was a consideration, Ford as I’m a massive retro performance Ford fan.

Sunday driver or rally racer? Both – I love retro performance cars and especially the road going homologations of the Group B Rally cars such as the Lancia Delta Integrale, Audi Quattro Sport and the Metro 6R4. However, certain cars are made for cruising!

We believe it is so important to support the very clubs who keep the classic car industry alive and have developed a package that we believe will provide revenue for the club, as well as significant benefits for its members.

Our dedicated Car Club Manager, Andrew Misseldine, is passionate about classics and has a wealth of knowledge that he is eager to share.

We welcome all club enquiries and the opportunity to discuss ways in which we can work with and support your club and its members to our mutual benefit.

If you would like a copy of the Lancaster Club Proposal pack or would just like to talk classics, drop Andrew a line at [email protected] or phone 01480 220 065

Being a member of a car club can mean so much more than an annual subscription and a monthly magazine. People from all walks of life are drawn together with one thing in common – a love of classic cars. Some clubs are formed as a thriving business, others as a charitable organisation and many are run by individuals working from home in their spare time. There can be as many as 30,000 club members and as few as a dozen; size really doesn’t matter providing there is enthusiasm and passion.

The classic car club can be where you find that elusive component you need for your car, where you establish its value, and where you seek a solution to that annoying technical problem. There is a real sense of belonging when club members get together for a rally and nothing is quite as impressive as a whole convoy of classic cars making their way through the countryside. It’s nostalgia, it’s memories and it’s an experience that’s great fun to share.

With 30 years of working with classic car clubs under our belt, we not only recognise the importance of being a club member, we encourage it. We know what members are likely to require, understand their insurance needs and offer significant benefits.
