The ABCs of Snow Play with Kids For kids, a visit to the snow is like step-ping into the pages of a storybook. It’s a fairytale come true. And with Big Bear’s close proximity to nearby cities, there’s no reason not to declare a snow day and come up to play.
Here are a few ideas to get you and your kids going. But follow your child’s lead for creative snow play.
SNOW FUN FOR KIDSKids love being the first for just about anything! Let your kids be the first to make prints in freshly fallen snow.
Make a snowman by scooping up the snow and shaping it into your children’s own creation – fun for little hands and big hands alike.
Explore the magical winter forest with a Big Bear Discovery Center naturalist to learn fascinating forest facts.
Snow-laden branches sprinkle flurries. Or is that fairy dust?
It’s tube time! Not the boob tube, but inner tubing and sledding down snowy hills. Big Bear has two designated snow play areas.
Build a fort, then start a playful snowball fight. Take cover in the fort!
Dig the snow. Hand your kids buckets and shovels and let them build whatever their imaginations desire.
Learn to ski or ride but leave the lessons to the pros at Big Bear Mountain Resorts. Instructors make learning fun for ages four and older.
If your kids already ski, play “follow the leader” down the slopes. Stash healthy snacks in your pocket for quick energy lifts. And remember to always carry water. High altitude equals big thirst!
