UnitEssentialQuestion:Howcanwesustainbiodiversityinamodern,changingworld?ChallengeAshumanbeings,wedependonnaturalresources,suchasfood,water,and

othermaterialsfromecosystems.AswelearnedinUnit3,eachecosystem

containsnaturalcyclesandinteractionsthatkeepsitstableandfunctioning.

OnesuchecosystemislocatedintheAndesmountains,inSouthAmerica.This

regionhasawiderangeofnaturalhabitatsandorganisms,andthuscontains

manyvaluableresourceswhichhumansneed.AsyousawintheLift-Offvideo,

ashumanstakewhattheyneed,theynegativelyimpactnaturalecosystems,like

theAndes.

Forthisproject,youwillcreateaproposaltohelppreservetheAndes.You

willfirstinvestigatethewaysinwhichhumansimpactecosystems,and

thenevaluatevariousstrategiesusedtoreducethisimpact.Asagroup,

youwillproposeareasonableplantopreserveecosystemsintheAndes

andcommunicatethisplanbypresentingaposteratanEnvironmental

ScienceConference.Individually,youwillsubmitamoredetailedversion

ofthisproposalintheformofawrittenarticletobepublishedinthe

EnvironmentalScienceJournal.
