$10 Uniform Sale Day
(Cash Only—No EFTPOS Available) Wednesday 4th August
Currently the school canteen has an over supply of uniforms (mostly larger sizes) and will be reducing
stock with a $10.00 sale. A huge saving to you. Now is the time to get a warm comfortable school
jumper for next year or maybe your student is entering senior school and new shirts and skirts are re-
quired. The canteen will be open before school recess and lunch. Send your student along with $10 and
the ladies in the canteen are more than happy to help with sizing.
Wendy Rose—Canteen Coordinator
P & C meeting
On Wednesday 18th August at 7pm, Senior Constable Kim Mewing, the Police School Liaison
Officer, will be speaking about cyber-bullying and the role of the Liaison Officer. Please come
along and have input into your school.

Education Week
Welcome to Education Week. This is a time to celebrate all of the great things occurring
in our school and to say thank you to those people in our community that help these
great things happen.
Education Week’s focus is the ‘Year of Learning for Sustainability’ and this fits in well
with the targets for Lismore High and other DET Schools.
For some time at Lismore the school has been focusing on actions to support sustainability and to raise
awareness of the affects of climate change. The Climate Change Action Committee has initiated power use
audits, green grants, waste management reviews and a full paper, green waste and rubbish recycle pro-
gram. We are a long way from sustainability but very much on the front foot in regard to planning for a
more sustainable future.
CAPA Night
On Wednesday the school will showcase the talents of its students in the Creative and Performing Arts
faculty. The CAPA night (7.00pm in the Hall) involves great performances in dance, drama as well as band
and vocal items along with the annual Lismorchibald Art Competition. Thanks go to Mrs Best, Mr Nelder,
Ms Myles, Ms Hudson and Ms Pine for their efforts in staging this event. Local Primary Schools will enjoy a
day at the theatre on Wednesday too when they watch the Matinee CAPA Performance commencing at
11.30am in the Hall.
Thank You Friends
A Benefactors Morning Tea to be held on Thursday of Education Week acknowledges
the contribution to the school by individual and community groups. These friends of
the school are welcomed at a morning tea held in their honour.
Star Students
Student acknowledgement of performance is always important to ensure. With this in mind I
ask parents of those students who have been involved in sporting, community, academic and
cultural events to email the school to let us know of their student’s endeavours. This can be
done through: [email protected]

Student Notes
Student unexplained absences are always a concern for both the parent and the school. As a DET require-
ment the school is asked to report unexplained absences to parents on a regular basis. It is often the case
that the parent is not aware that the student was absent or there may be a reason for the absence but
the student has not returned the note. (This note can often be found at the bottom of the school bag or as
a mache in a pocket after the weekly laundry.) Absences can also be explained by use of email. Parents
please respond through: [email protected]
Visitors to the School
Vehicle access to the school has now been changed. In order to improve student and staff
safety in and around the school, visitor parking in school grounds has been limited. All visi-
tors to the school are asked to park in College Rd and then use the pedestrian access pro-
vided. This is the most direct and shortest route to the administration block in the school.
All goods and services deliveries to the school should call the school on 66215185 to en-
sure prompt access to the school. Students needing to leave the school for partial absences must first
provide parent permission, then sign out and leave the grounds via the College Rd access. I thank the
School community for their understanding in this safety matter.
The Federal Election
The upcoming election has provided all school principals with some ‘food for thought’. I feel it is important
to share some areas where our local candidates need to clarify their political party’s stand. The reason I
do this is to ask all parents to request their local candidate to outline their stand too. These areas are:
National review of school funding – 70% of parents send their students to Public School, private schools
receive 60% of Federal funding
Funding for computers in school – the Digital Education Revolution – will this continue or will the project
be cancelled?
The roll out of a National Broadband would be of enormous benefit to schools and students in an increas-
ingly digital world.
My School – assurances that there will not be the release of data for league tables
The National Curriculum Trade Training Centres – are these to be continued or the project cancelled?
Each of these issues will have significant impacts on schooling. A clear picture on where candidates stand
on these issues is needed to allow everyone to make informed decisions on election day.
Change of Role
I have been asked to relieve as School Education Director in the Forster area for the last 6 weeks of this
term and have agreed to do this. It will be a different role for me and I believe I will bring back to the
school a number of fresh approaches to what we have been doing after working in high schools and pri-
mary schools on the Lower North Coast. Mr Lindsay Kitching will relieve as principal for this time.
With thanks
Peter Campbell
Principal
