Write a point-tester equation for the line that passes through the point (6, 5) with a slope of 2/3.
Warm-Up: November 5, 2014
Homework Questions?
Linear Equations and Graphs
Investigation 4AAdvanced Integrated Math I
How can we write the equation of a line?
Essential Question
The slope between any two points on a line is constant.
The slope of a line is the slope between any two points on the line.
You can write the equation of a line if you know its slope and any point on the line.
Lines
Write the equation of the line that passes through (3, 7) and (-2, 4).
Example 1
Write the equation of the line that passes through (-1, 4) and (3, 12).
You-Try #1
Lines are parallel if they have the same slope but do not overlap.

Homework Questions?
What is the fastest/easiest way to graph a line?
How can we determine the slope of a line from its equation?
Essential Questions
Two points determine a line. Find any two points, plot them, then draw a
line through them.
Graphing Lines
The point where the line crosses the x-axis is called the x-intercept.◦ Substitute 0 for y and solve for x.
The point where the line crosses the y-axis is called the y-intercept.◦ Substitute 0 for x and solve for y.
Intercepts
Find the x-intercept and y-intercept, then graph

Point-Slope Form◦ Plug in slope for m and point coordinates for x1 and y1
Slope-Intercept Form◦ The slope is m and the y-intercept is b
Standard Form◦ Slope is –A/B

Stanley leaves his house at 8:00 AM. He rides his bike to the park at a constant 15 ft/s. Johnny, Stanley’s older brother, leaves 10 minutes after Stanley, and rides his bike at a constant 20 ft/s along the same road to the same park.
a) How far has each boy traveled at 8:20?b) How far has each boy traveled at 8:45?c) How can you find the exact time that Johnny
catches up with Stanley?
Warm-Up: November 7, 2014
