Jenny Akers: In the 80’s and 90’s Jenny worked in the Southwest of Sydney as a TAFE teacher for 15 years including co-ordinating the Aboriginal Literacy/Numeracy program at Macquarie Fields and Campbelltown TAFE for 6 years. In 2003-2007 she took the management position of Executive Officer at University of Sydney Royal Prince Alfred Clinical School. From 2007-2009 she was Executive Officer at University of Western Sydney Macarthur Clinical School and for the last four years has worked as the UWS Rural Program Manager. This role has meant establishing the Rural Clinical School in Bathurst and developing a team to carry out the coursework and community engagement tasks. Since 2010 she and Christine Carriage, the UWS Indigenous Program Officer have negotiated the student placements in the many Aboriginal Medical Services who have become our community partners and host the UWS Year 5 students. Following a very warm welcome from the Bathurst community from the outset of the project her main achievements in the rural program are to have found and developed an extremely competent local team and to have learned the protocols and respect involved in authentic engagement with Aboriginal organisations.
