Reader’s Workshop Ask your child: Ask me what is happening in the Read Aloud is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . In this book I am practicing making inferences when I read. I know that often I need to look for clues in the story to answer a question about a story. As Mrs. Smoral reads this book she is modeling how a reader can infer as he/she is thinking about story events. I worked on the comprehension strategy of synthesize this week after I listened to the stories Benjamin Franklin and The Snowflake. When I think of synthesizing information from a story or text, I think of a puzzle. I am Writer’s Workshop: Ask your child: I am learning to write like a scientist! Ask me about my catapult lab reports. I am learning this type of informational writing needs many details, in the procedure section, so the reader can understand the experiment. I continue to practice telling time on analog clocks to the five minutes. I should practice telling time at home to the five minutes. Ask me if it is am or pm too when I tell time. I can also practice how much time has passed or elapsed time. Ask me to tell you a few of my favorite Math Workplace Games. I share my mathematical thinking during the games. Ask me to count a collection of coins. Ask me how to write ninety-three cents different ways. Ask your child: Ask me what is happening in the

Read Aloud is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In this book I am practicing making inferences when I read. I know that often I need to look for clues in the story to answer a question about a story. As Mrs. Smoral reads this book she is modeling how a reader can infer as he/she is thinking about story events.

I worked on the comprehension strategy of synthesize this week after I listened to the stories Benjamin Franklin and The Snowflake. When I think of synthesizing information from a story or text, I think of a puzzle. I am putting pieces of what I read together to summarize the book.

I continue to use the VIP strategy as I read about force and motion!

As I read I am looking for strategies writers use like comparisons, alliterations,time-passing words and alliterations. When I notice what the author is doing I name it and think “What special meaning does the author want me to get?

Writer’s Workshop: Ask your child: I am learning to write like a scientist! Ask me about my

catapult lab reports. I am learning this type of informational writing needs many details, in the procedure section, so the reader can understand the experiment. Ask me why my writing needs to be precise. Ask me how I shared my results. Did I use a table, chart or bar graph? Ask me about my conclusion page.

I am using force and motion lingo in my lab report. Ask me some force and motion words I used in my writing this week.

I continue to practice telling time on analog clocks to the five minutes. I should practice telling time at home to the five minutes. Ask me if it is am or pm too when I tell time. I can also practice how much time has passed or elapsed time.

Ask me to count a collection of coins. Ask me how to write ninety-three cents different ways. I am learning how to use the $ sign and the decimal point to write money values.

I continue to solve story problems using money. Ask me some problems using money. I need to be able to write an equation and show my work for all story problems.

Word Study: Ask your child: I have been sorting my new set of Word Study words by their

word feature. As I sort and spell these words I think of other words that can go in this word feature.
