Students are writing and recognizing numbers 1-5. In Kindercorner we are learning about respecting feelings as we watch Alphie and Kangeroo lead by example. Community helpers is the topic for Social Studies and in Science we are focusing on the 5 senses. Ms. Sigler would like to recognize Kadence Scott and Regan Martin for being model students and exhibiting their JAGUAR PRIDE! Parents, please check your child’s homework Our Pre-k children have made a significant accomplishment of transitioning into the school setting. For the next four weeks we will focus on family. The theme is “I am an important part of my family. We will explore the uniqueness of our families. Showing kindness is the perfect way to share love. In literature we are focusing on speaking in complete sentences and First grade isn’t FALLing behind! We are working hard to learn sight words, text features, adjectives and commutative property. We are also learning how to be a good citizen in social studies along with our lessons from Manners of the Heart. We are also learning about the weather. You can find our stories for the week and Eureka math homework examples on Youtube.com (more info in your child’s homework folder). Success For All (SFA) books will be sent home Merrydale Elementary Presents: In second grade we are learning the difference between cardinal and intermediate directions! We are using measuring tools such as rulers and cubs in math. In Reading we are learning how to compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic. For example, we THE JAGUAR JOURNAL In ELA, we are reading tall tales and legends. We have written short narratives that include correct usage of verbs, proper nouns and hyperboles. In Math we are exploring multistep word problems and mental math. In science we We have successfully completed a computer based practice assessment. Students are working on creative writing using Writer’s Workshop. We are learning all about comparing and contrasting stories. In the upcoming weeks students will be using our technology in the classroom by practicing skills Monday, October 2, 2017 Need a computer at home? In social studies and science we are discussing Native Americans & European exchanges by doing in-house research papers and projects. In science the focus is chemical and physical changes. Please encourage and motivate your children to read more at home to enhance their reading fluency and comprehension. You can even ask them to write about what they have read. For Math, flashcards can help with learning multiplication facts. Please ask your children about their day and challenge them. -Ms. Robinson, Ms. Ollie & Ms. Knighton
