St. John’s United Church of Christ serves 439 members and has a rich 155-year history of local and wider ministry and missions. Our multi-generational congregation is caring, welcoming to all and supportive to both members and those within the community. St. John's is located in a residential neighborhood. A suburban community 45 minutes from downtown Chicago, Mokena has transitioned over the past 25 years from a rural community into a vital suburban community. Through that growth, the village maintains the spirit of a family friendly community, yet has attributes of a larger community at hand.

St. John’s offers two Sunday worship experiences in a beautiful sanctuary with an overarching balcony. We continually try to preserve our rich traditions while incorporating the latest technology to enhance our worship experience. The first Sunday service offers a more traditional worship experience and utilizes our hymnal and pipe organ. The second service is more contemporary and incorporates a band, praise choir, inspiring dramas, and youth participation. These two different experiences offer an opportunity to choose a worship preference.

St. John's worship experience is enhanced by it's music programs. Under the direction of the music director, adult and children's vocal choirs, handbells, pipe organ and dramas add meaning to our worship experience.

A variety of programs and activities is offered for the youth of the church and community. In addition to a Sunday morning program, children can participate in Jesus and Me (JAM) Time on Wednesdays. All look forward to the summer VBS program which includes children of the community as well as St. John's youth.

St. John’s passion for missions is found locally as well as in wider church mission work, such as Back Bay Mission and Emmaus Home. We actively participate in community ecumenical events and our Christian Community Center is frequently used for a variety of church and community activities.

The minister called to St. John’s will lead us in meaningful, biblically-inspired worship, share enthusiasm for evangelism and small group studies, work to expand youth groups, and provide strong leadership skills to enhance the spiritual growth of its members. We hope to embrace a visionary leader who relates to our multi-generational congregation, offers spiritual guidance, and challenges Christians to connect scriptures to today’s world.
