Evaluation for my poster

I created a poster about smoking because nowadays everyone is smoking from young adults to old people and I felt like an effective poster will encourage people to stop smoking. My intended aims was to make people realise that smoking is bad for you and that smoking doesn’t fulfil the needs and pleasures but instead brings a lot of harm that possible cannot be cured and even lead to death. To create the poster I researched different types of anti-smoking campaigns and looked at some posters that the campaign has produced and started to think about what I needed to do to create a smoking campaign. Once I done my research I found a couple pictures of smoking poster that I thought were really effective and felt like I was ready to create a poster.

There are some of the poster I found relating to my chosen theme which I thought was really effective and creative. Also these posters have the same sort of message as the poster i created by raising awareness that smoking can kill and that people are risking their own lives by smoking.

This is the poster I designed for my chosen theme and I think it’s effective because by researching i manged to come up with a unique poster about smoking. For my poster I decided to use a large central image of myself and got a decayed lung to show the target audience the effects of smoking and what it does to the lung. I’ve also included smoke at the top and bottom of the page which adds a serious thing to the poster which the target audience make think that smoking is harmful and that not only smokers are harming themselves but harming the environment too. I decided to keep the background simple by keeping it black so that the smoke, text and central image. I included social media logo so that the target audience will know where to find the campaign. The text is effective the message is that if u want to kill yourself them smoke and it makes people realise that smoking is not good and harming themselves for no reason. The font colour of the bottom text is red which connotes death and danger and this is a sign that smoking is bad and lead to death.

My poster compares to other posters I looked at because it has the same message which is about smoking and also the images I used and the ones I have looked at are similar but just created differently for example a poster I looked at rotten lungs, smoke and a caption with it talking about the dangers of smoking and what it can lead too and my poster that an effective caption which say

"mind if i smoke " "if you want to die then smoke" and most of the anti-smoking campaigns have captions like this to raise awareness to people who smoke.

To create this poster I firstly started of as a draft by getting pictures from the internet but I haven’t taken the actual picture on the dslr camera because I didn’t really what to produce I was still deciding. For the first draft I got a picture of a girl and got rid of the background with the laser tool to just get the outline of the girl and done the same thing with the cigarette. The background was a grey fade and I wanted to keep the background dark because it looked more appealing and more serious because my poster was about being against smoking. Once I done this I was not satisfied because I thought I need something more effective picture wise but thought the caption was effective.

First draft

Once I planned my first draft I went to the photography studio where one of my classmates took several pictures of me on the dslr camera and she took various types of picture so that i can decided and pick the most suitable one. When I picked my favourite one I started to design the actual poster on Photoshop. When I picked the picture I was really clear on what I wanted to produce. So what I done was I wanted a black background because I thought the picture I chose would have a good look and contrast because it was look more good and professional. Then I added the picture and when I added the picture with the advice from my teacher I added a white border around the actual picture because I could see the border between the picture and the background so once I done the white background the picture looked better. After that I got a picture online a picture of a lung and I got rid of the background with the laser tool and then placed the lung onto the jumper to show that when you smoke your lung go bad and to get rid of the harsh edged of the lung I used the erase tool but made the line soft so that it can blend in with the jumper on the poster. After that I added the smoke which again I got it online and decided to place it at the top and bottom at first I wanted to place the smoke behind the picture but when I placed it at the top and bottom I felt like it looked better and

that’s the way I decided to keep it like that which connotes the smoke that comes off from the cigarette and show how much harm it cause to humans and the world. Then I added the text the top one the colour of it is white and the bottoms text is in red and the reason why its red because it connotes when u smoke it leads to danger for instance you can have a health problem that might not be cured or lead to death. I also added social media links so the target audience can find my campaign in any social media links.

Overall I think I created a successful poster campaign because I manged produce a creative and original poster but if I was change on thing about my poster is that to think of a more eye catchy caption that would catch more attention because I feel like the caption might not appeal to some people and would not be interested in my campaign.

The feedback I got from my class mates were that they thought it looked really good and professional especially the lungs because it was faded into my jumper they thought it had a nice contrast and that it looked like it has an illusion. But one thing that they have noticed is that I haven’t included a website link and that I only had social media logo because if the target audience wants to look at the social media pages they won’t know that name of the campaign. So on my poster I have made one change that was to add a website link which is “stopsmokingnow”.
