The man brushed off the reaction as ignorance, but the smirks began to get to him. He looked one of the rude men square in the eye, placed his hand beneath the ribbon and asked, quizzically, "This?" With that the men all began to laugh out loud. The man he addressed said, as he fought back laughter, "Hey, sorry man, but we were just commenting on how pretty your little ribbon looks against your blue jacket!" The middle aged man calmly motioned for the joker to come over to his table, and invited him to sit down. As uncomfortable as he was, the guy obliged, not really sure why. In a soft voice, the middle aged man said, "I wear this ribbon to bring awareness about breast cancer. I wear it in my mother's honor." "Oh, sorry dude. She died of breast cancer?" "No, she didn't. She's alive and well. But her breasts nourished me as an infant, and were a soft resting place for my head when I was scared or lonely as a little boy. I'm very grateful for my mother's breasts, and her health." "Umm," the stranger replied, "Yeah." "And I wear this 2600 Assembly Road October

COMMENTS FROM THE COMMITTEETHE PINK RIBBON STORY

A handsome, middle-aged man walked quietly into the cafe and sat down. Before he ordered, he couldn't help but notice a group of younger men at the table next to him. It was obvious they were making fun of something about him, and it wasn't until he remembered he was wearing a small pink ribbon on the lapel of his suit that he became aware of what the joke was all about. I'm very grateful for my mother's breasts,

and her health." "Umm," the stranger replied, "Yeah." "And I wear this ribbon to honor my wife," the middle aged man went on. "And she's okay, too?", the other guy asked. "Oh, yes. She's fine. Her breasts have been a great source of loving pleasure for both of us, and with them she nurtured and nourished our beautiful daughter 23 years ago. I am grateful for my wife's breasts, and for her health." "Uh huh. And I guess you wear it to honor your daughter, also?" "No. It's too late to honor my daughter by wearing it now. My daughter died of breast cancer one month ago. She thought she was too young to have breast cancer, so when she accidentally noticed a small lump, she ignored it. She thought that since it wasn't painful, it must not be anything to worry about." Shaken and ashamed, the

now sober stranger said, "Oh, man, I'm so sorry mister". "So, in my daughter's memory, too, I proudly wear

this little ribbon, which allows me the opportunity to enlighten others. Now, go home and talk to your wife and your daughters, your mother and your friends. And here the middle-aged man reached in his pocket and handed the other man a little pink ribbon. The guy looked at it, slowly raised his head and asked, "Can you help me put it on?"

"It is like being a pumpkin.God picks you from the patch

brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then he cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff He removes the seeds of

Health Tips

Breast Cancer Awareness month is October but breast health should be monitored all year long. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among African American women. Although it occurs at a higher rate in white women, the disease may develop at a younger age and cause more deaths among African American women. African American women have the highest breast cancer death rate of any racial or ethnic group. Men are also at risk for developing breast cancer. Early detection and effective treatment have been shown to improve survival.

Things you can do to be more breast healthy:

1. Talk to your family to learn about family health history.

2. Talk to your doctor to find out your personal risks.

3. Have a clinical breast exam every three years starting at age 20, and every year starting at age40.

4. Schedule a mammogram every year starting at age 40, if you are at average risk.

5. Perform your own breast exam monthly. Only you know what is normal for you!

6.Make healthy lifestyle choices by maintaining a healthy weight, adding exercise to your routine and limiting the amount of your alcohol

Cute StoriesCUTE STORIES

CUTE STORIESA pastor was in the habit of reading every word of his sermons - which were rather long and tedious. One of the men in the congregation thought to cure him of this, and, before the service, slipped into the pulpit and removed one page at random. The preacher began. After a while he reached the point where the page was gone. "And Adam said unto Eve..." He paused. "And Adam, err, said unto Eve...There seems to be a leaf missing!"

A pastor was preaching on the Minor Prophets...alltwelve of them in one sermon. After two hours he wasonly half-way through his message. Everyone was getting restless. Most had stopped paying attention. After four hours, to everyone's relief, he said "Finally...". It was almost over, they thought. Then to their horror, the Pastor said, "Oh my, I forgot about

Micah...what shall we do with Micah?". One old lady sitting right in front could take no more. She stood up and said, "Hey, preacher! Micah can take my seat...I'm going home!"..

There was a woman driving a car and she was obviously stressed out and in a hurry. She would honk at the car in front, which was doing the speed limit. She was flipping it off, yelling, and when she missed the light because of that car, she was yelling and waving her fist out the window. Then she heard a knock at her window and a police officer was standing there. He told her he was going to have to take her to the police station, so he handcuffed her, read her rights, and drove her to the station. She didn't know what she did that was so wrong. He came back after a while and said "I apologize and you are free to go. When I saw your car had 'What Would Jesus Do' and 'Follow me to Sunday School' bumper stickers, plus the Christian fish and other Christian signs on it, with the way you were acting toward the other driver - I just assumed you had stolen the car."

Quotes "When I die, I want to die like my grandfather – who died peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming like all the passengers in his car." --Author Unknown

Advice for the day: If you have a lot of tension and you get a headache, do what it says on the aspirin bottle: "Take two aspirin" and "Keep away from children" -
