Vice Captain's Report

The following was submitted as his report

We took part in the Lyme Regis Jurassic Challenge on April 17th with a prize going to Rob Hardy for a nearest the pin. Unfortunately this was the only prize, but it was a good day and well organised. An email was sent to the organisers to show that all their hard work was appreciated.

Senior Committee Minutes

As requested at the last meeting I had an amicable word with the member who was ignoring the fairway protective ropes. He agreed not to violate again. (the ropes were all removed within days.)

I also had a word , as requested, with the Proshop regarding medal and stableford fees and all was in order two days later for the April stableford.

Treasurer's Report:

The following was submitted as his report

. A cheque for £7.50 was paid to Keith Bradley to cover the cost of a plaque for the Memorial Bench.

A cheque for £ 254 was paid to Enmore GC for our entry to the Enmore Stag Competition ( via Alan Forscutt).

The Pro-Shop paid £3 cash for a member who entered the 3 Club Trophy but did not play in the competition.

The Winter Eclectic made an overall profit of £90. The BHF fund received £22.50 with £67.50 going into this Section's coffers.

The "April Medal" ( played as a 16 hole Stableford due to 2 holes being unplayable) produced a profit of £38.00, whilst the actual April Stableford produced a very healthy profit of £72.00.

The latest bank statement indicates that Lyme Regis GC (organisers of the Jurassic Classic) have now banked the £238 cheque we paid for our entry.

Further cheques were received for entries into the BHF Charity Day amounting to £312.00 .

This year's Yellow Ball Competition has yet to be played (if ever), so we still have 22 yellow golf balls in our possession.

We now possess 1 'hole-in-one' trophy and the last remaining 'Old Timers Trophy' has been passed on to the 2016/17 winner, Derek Robson.

There are now 5 bottles of wine now remaining in my cellar following the 'Everyone's-a-Winner' competition on Friday 10th November 2017.

Competition Secretary

The following was submitted as his report

Yellow Ball is rearranged with Pro Shop and Club House for Friday 12th October.

Winter League (also known as the Spring Cup!!) will be concluded immediately after this meeting when Alan Forscutt plays Jim Palmer. I will report the result and finances at the next meeting. Can I ask if we agreed to start this years competition from October 1st not Novermber 1st? Agreed

The Dick Wall Trophy is on Thursday with grouping decided on the morning, first tee is at 9.30 with an entry of around 13 people.

Some small overrun with the Thring and Philpott competitions but should be on track as the weather has improved.

I have taken down the Seniors Club Championship sheet today and will post the groupings on Thursday. There are 50 entries and these will go out mostly in three balls at 10 minutes intervals.

The sheet for those interested in the Bag O Beans against the ladies on 27th June is on the board, we require a minimum of 12 men but the ladies will try to match our pairing if we get more than 12 interested. I shall be on holiday that week but hopefully Al will captain the team and make the group selections a couple of week before the event?

The Codgers Cup entry sheet has been posted on the board today. I have a hospital appointment on that day that will prevent me from driving afterwards so would appreciate an organiser on the day? I can close the competition later but should be able to predict the prize amounts assuming we get a full attendance.

I have given Al Frith a USB stick with a current copy of the Seniors Competitions files. I will update this at each meeting when we both attend.

Handicap Secretary

` The following was submitted as his report

Medals & Stablefords

Stableford on 14th May.

83 scores entered, 83 paid in pro shop, possible exhilaration, **** 85 cards in box!!!!

On checking through had 87 names paid as two were not entered on sheet. After a lot of head scratching, two names had been written down twice, probably unrecognised by pro shop. Cost me two hours tracking time!

3 cards not entered on computer. Two entered incorrectly.

Winnners: Div 1 Mike Roberts, div 2 Andy shepherd, div 3 Peter Tazewell

Profit of £60 for the funds! Two spots £31.50 each to 4 people.

Fraser Davidson Hole in One on 18th!

Next Medal Wednesday 23rd May

Rearranged April Medal

Suggested date is August 6th, any comments before I announce the date? Agreed

Will close competition from home Wednesday evening. May need to open and close on Thursday after Dick Wall Trophy. Hope everyone understands reasoning.

Handicaps

The Handicaps Committee will be holding a review of changes in July, as stated after the annual review.

Supplementary cards.

Pete Dunford and Jim Salmond and Mark Tinker paid £3 each for supplementary rounds, pass £9 to treasurer

Need to educate entry’s as to procedure, but suggestion from WHS that we want as many people as possible to have 20 scores to work from! Our mechanism seems to mitigate against such a regime.

World Handicapping System

Report from Salisbury briefing. Well attended, no Russians in sight. Gist of meeting is that terms will change, acceptable scores will replace qualifying scores. Handicaps will be a decimal and the handicap you play from will be determined from the table supplied converting to a playing handicap using the slope index of the course. Your handicap, a decimal, will be worked out from the average of the best 8 scores from the last 20.

With fewer scores it will be calculated from the 3, 10, 15 etc with different average numbers. CHR will be abandoned!

Follow up meeting in October when more details will be available.

Most important advice was don’t change your handicaps committees for the next 2/3 years

BHF Day

100 + on the day Pete Finan was well pleased

Cheque for £1337.10 paid over, still finalising accounts as missing payments arriving. Suggest we send a cheque for£2,000 to BHF and leave the balance as a carry over for 2019.

I will draw up the accounts for the next meeting.

Peter would like to set up a committee to run the event next year as he feels it will spread the load. Views? (I will stay involved for the first of these years but will hand over the reins completely when it has run for the first time under its new structure!)
