Purpose of this assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to develop your skills in, and understanding of, moving image post-production processes. You will do this through exploring the professional practice of editing, and developing your own technical and creative skills. You will also develop an understanding of how your work can affect the final outcome of a production.
Scenario As part of your final show reel you have been tasked to create a 4 minute documentary that showcases the skills you have developed over the 2 years here at Stratford College. You will demonstrate your single camera, editing, research and project management skills. As this is part of your show reel you will explore your own themes and content for this documentary. You will be working in groups, demonstrating excellent team working skills throughout this project.
Task 1- Development of Editing
You have the option to write a 1200 word minimum essay, create a PPT/Prezi presentation or a video analysis on the following topics:
Technology used for editingThe use of digital editing, and analogue editing systems, make sure you use a moving image to illustrate your points in detail.
Principles of editing; Continuity editing, you must discuss eye line match, the 180-degree rule. All must be presented with images or moving images where possible to demonstrate your point.
Techniques of editing The use of montage, parallel editing and use of transitions. Again you must use images or moving image to illustrate your point and give detailed examples.
You should aim to complete this task by: W/C 02.05.16
This provides evidence for U16- PMD1
Task 2- Audience Research (Group/Pairs)
You must use primary and secondary research methods to collect qualitative and quantitative data that will enable you to identify and define your Broadcast Day audience. Using a range of research techniques, you will outline the characteristics and preferences of your audience, the results for which must be presented in a summarising document that contains mathematical diagrams and descriptive text. Your summary should also include an evaluation of the effectiveness of your selected research techniques.
This data will then be used to inform your Audience Rationale, which will justify the production
decisions that you have made to ensure that your final production will appeal to your target audience. You must describe how the research outcomes have influenced your production’s content, narrative, representation and production methods. All statements made in your rationale must be linked to your research results in order so show a direct link between your findings and your final production decisions.
You should aim to complete this task by: W/C 25.05.16
This provides evidence for U6- PMD1 & PMD 2
Task 3- Pre-Production
Working in production groups or individually, you must generate ideas for your documentary and produce a pre-production blog page that contains the following:

Risk Assessment Crew List/ Prop List A detailed production schedule with full details of time, location and participant. Release Forms for location and performance. (if needed) Final open-ended questions you will be asking your interviewees. Profiles of your interviewees and any other notes you may have on them.
Your pre-production will be presented in your pitch.
You should aim to completed this task by: W/C 25.04.16
