Dear Fred and Sylvia,On behalf of the entire Marsden family I would like to thank you for your tireless support and kind condolences in recent weeks as we mourned the tragic loss of Raymond. Without wonderful friends like you to spend time with us and help with day to day tasks it would have been much more difficult for us to suffer through this very difficult period. I especially appreciated the numerous meals that you prepared and delivered to us as well as the drives to school you provided for Kirstin and Charlie. You can't imagine what a help this was to Carl and I as we tried to focus on Raymond's funeral arrangements while also having to deal with the media. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for all that you have done.

Sincerely grateful,

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon

The Hanging Gardens of Babylon was a man-made structure that was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Hanging Gardens originated in approximately 605 B.C. Babylon, the capital of Babylonia, was built between the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers, where modern Baghdad, in Iraq, stands today. King Nebuchadnezzar built the Hanging Gardens for his wife, Amytis, who was the Princess of the Medes.

The Hanging Gardens was built on arches overlooking the city walls. The lowest terrace was twenty-four meters off the ground and each succeeding terrace was three meters higher. There were about six terraces, so that the topmost terrace was forty meters off the ground.

The first stage of the building was a series of brick archways that were the same height as the city walls. Underneath them lay a shaded courtyard. On top of these arches, the Babylonians built long brick terraces in rows. These terraces were lined with lead, to hold the water, the covered with thick layers of fertile soil. Many exotic plants and trees were planted. Each flower-bed was the size of a tennis court and the area of each terrace was thirty meters long by five meters long by five meters wide.

The next day, we spent our time observing plantation and insects while the girls were preparing meals. In the afternoon we went to the river and caught some fish for supper. WolverineThe young wolverine opened it’s eyes after sleeping well for six hours to discover that the air was ten degrees below zero. After stretching and arching his back, he scampered out of his den into the crisp morning air to search for food. He was always hungry.

He went to his usual food stash, a tree stump about 5 feet away from the opening of his den. In his hunger the wolverine failed to notice the difference in his food stash. The two rabbits he had killed the day before were moved from inside the tree stump to the edge of the tree stump.

As the wolverine ran up to his rabbits, a loud snap filled the air. The wolverine’s foot was caught in a trap. He felt excruciating pain and began to thrashing around, tugging to free his foot. Finally, he pulled himself free from the trap leaving part of his foot behind. At first he wondered what had happened. His foot was bleeding and hurting more than it had ever hurt before.

He howled and whimpered as he went back into his den to nurse his wound. It took three days before the wolverine could walk out of his den and find some vegetation to eat. Lion, The King of the Jungle

Lions are carnivorous mammals that come from the family Felidae. They are geographically distributed in mostly sub-Saharan east and southern Africa but can also be found in zoos internationally, India and some parts of Asia . The population of these vulnerable animals has dramatically decreased in the past few decades with no solid reason as to why. It is thought that clashes with humans and habitat loss may be a possibility, but to help further preserve and monitor these creatures, they are usually kept within reserves and parks. Only eight sub species are recognized today and there is a small range of hybrids with lions mating with tigers, jaguars or leopards to create unique creatures. This is discouraged and only initiated at zoos.

These kings of the jungle can weigh between 250 and 550 pounds, depending on sex and age and can grow up to be 14 years old in the wild and over the age of 20 years old in captivity. They become capable at hunting at the age of two and are fully grown after 5 or 6 years. Male lions are distinguishable for their impressive manes, which signifies their masculinity and reflects their health. The darker and thicker the mane, the healthier the lion. It allows the lions to appear stronger and frightening to warn off enemies, particularly humans, and appeals to lionesses that are scientifically proven to mate more with lions with thick and dark manes. Lions with no manes are either genetically inbred or have been castrated.

The Amazon Forest and the Future of the World

What will happen if more of the Amazon forest is cut down? According to 54..., two things are likely to happen, there will be serious effects on the world's climate, and the air that we breathe will lose some of its oxygen. Why does this happen?

Trees 55. ... the gas carbon dioxide from the air, and give out oxygen into the air. The trees of the Amazon rain forest are chemically very active, and some scientists believe that they provide 50% of the world's annual production of oxygen. If we lose the tropical forest, the 56. ...will contain much less oxygen and much more carbon dioxide. It will become hard perhaps even impossible to breathe.

With more carbon dioxide in the air, the temperature will rise; the ice-caps at the North and South poles will melt, the sea level will rise, and hundreds of coastal cities will be flooded.

All scientists agree that if we destroy the Amazon forest, it will be environmental suicide-like loosing an ocean. Life on earth will become difficult, and it may become impossible.
