Section 1

Introduction to OER

Brief overview of OER

This OER is a collection of a sequence of Learning videos and LbD (Learning by Doing) activities for a course on Digital System Design. There are 5 power point presentation and 3 LbD activities related to the topics of Digital System Design, Sequential and combination circuits. This OER is very useful for all the 2nd year students of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Electronics and Electrical Engineering students. As a part of these quiz has been added which was designed by using moodle cloud and made available under the website. It will make the students to think beyond and student focus can be inceased. These videos and LbD activities (OER) can be downloaded from: svkece.wordpress.com

Learning Objectives

This OER will be able to achieve following objectives:Learning Objective:

o Understand the Designing of Digital circuits.o Analysis and simplify the Boolean expression.

Target Audience

All 2nd year ECE and EEE students

Tools used in OER Creation

1. Course Portfolio is created in Wordpress.2. Learning Videos.3. Assignments (two of the LbD activity) created in moodlecloud.4. Quiz (one of the LbD activity) is created on moodlecloud.

Design Decisions

Three types of design decisions were taken for creation of OER. These are as follows:

1. Pedagogy Decision:Pedagogy decision included:

Pedagogy refers to the strategies educators use to promote students learning. Second decision was regarding pedagogy to be used in LbD activities. Team

decided to design LbD activities in such a way that would create learning at recall and apply cognitive levels in students.

2. Content Decision: Content decision included:

We decided to develop OER so that students can able to remember the topics and can prepare well for the exams. So we decided to use OER for VLSI Design course which is a part of their curriculum.

For this the team decided to provide:o Powerpoint presentationo Quizo You tube Links for additional information.o Refreshing contents.

3. Technology Decision Technology decision included:

Video links for Youtube were given. Also presentation was done through power point For all LbD activity, i.e. Moodle Quiz Activity was selected. Also feedback was received from participants.

OER DescriptionLink of OER

This OER can be accessed through the following website:

Moodle quiz is given in the following link:

This link is already provided in the website.

Screenshots of OER creation

In OER creation two major tools were used. Screenshots of designing in both the tools are given below:

Step 1 : Create New Account in Moodle cloud

How to use OER

Use of OER by students:

Open link: svkece.wordpress.com

Open the above link and select FDP201x

To login to the moodle use following details:

Username: svkece

Password: kiotsvkece

After logging in, click on Digital System Design. Study the course content and attempt the quiz. Also give the feedback about the course content and about the quiz.

Use of OER by Educators:

They may provide link of website to students for conceptual understanding and implementing that knowledge through various LbD activities. The teacher can then check the performance of the students by following methods:

1. To check the performance of quiz, teacher may ask them to bring screenshots of their quiz review sheet, which they will get after submitting the quiz.

2. To check the case analysis, teacher may ask students to submit case analysis in form of assignment in the class.

Best Practices

The best practices for use of such out of class OER could be:

1. Ask the students to watch the ppt and do the related LbD activity one day prior to the class on that particular topic.

2. Teacher may give some marks for completion of the said LbD activity.3. These presentation and LbD activities can be referred by the students on a later stage also,

as and when required.

Section 4Effectiveness of OER

Effectiveness at student level

Effectiveness of OER at student level can be checked for three parameters:

1. Access: Access to ppt can be checked through number of views of video in youtube. Access to quiz can be checked through number of attempts of quiz made by students. Moodle shows the complete record of all those who have attempted the quiz.

2. Learning: Learning can be checked through the scores/ grades of students who have attempted the quiz from moodle. In case of Case analysis teacher can grade it and judge the learning from resource. In case of Leadership activity scoring can be done according to the answer key provided in the website.

3. Feedback: A feedback from the students can also be taken through the website about the ppt and activities. The feedback survey instrument is as follows:

5-Strongly Agree, 4-Agree, 3-Neutral, 2-Disagree, 1-Strongly Disagree

Statements 5 4 3 2 1

The course were easy to access

The course helped in learning about the concepts

The activities linked with videos were able to create greater learning at recall and apply level

The topics taken were completely covered through ppt and activities

The contents and activities were easy to understand

The instructions provided for quiz were very clear

Effectiveness at educator level

To check the effectiveness of OER at educator’s level, we can take feedback from those who have used this OER. This feedback survey can be linked on the website itself, so that whosoever accesses the website for resources can give the feedback. The feedback survey instrument is as follows:

5-Strongly Agree, 4-Agree, 3-Neutral, 2-Disagree, 1-Strongly Disagree

Statements 5 4 3 2 1

The resources were easy to access (website, videos and activities)

All the links provided in the website are easy to open.

The instructions provided for creation of OER are clear.

The learning contents are effective

Coverage of topics is full

The activities linked to videos are effective and are able to create greater learning among students

Videos and activities are easy to understand

* To ensure higher number of feedbacks, we can ask email ids of users when they want to access resources. These email ids can be used later on to get the feedback from all those who accessed these resources (students and teachers both).
