Introit Hymn – All stand as the choir and ministers enter the church

Jesus shall reign where'er the sundoes its successive journeys run;his kingdom stretch from shore to shore, till moons shall wax and wane no more.

People and realms of every tonguedwell on his love with sweetest song, and infant voices shall proclaimtheir early blessings on his name.

Blessings abound where'er he reigns;the prisoners leap to lose their chains;the weary find eternal rest, and all who suffer want are blest.

Let every creature rise and bringthe highest honours to our King;angels descend with songs again, and earth repeat the loud amen.

Isaac Watts (1674-1748)

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

Old Testament Reading – Jeremiah 29:1, 4-7These are the words of the letter that the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to the remaining elders among the exiles, and to the priests, the prophets, and all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had taken into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, to all the exiles whom I have sent into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and live in them; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Take wives and have sons and daughters; take wives for your sons, and give your daughters in marriage, that they may bear sons and daughters; multiply there, and do not decrease. But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

At the end the reader saysThis is the word of the Lord.

All Thanks be to God.New Testament Reading – 2 Timothy 2:8-15

8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David—that is my gospel, 9 for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. 11 The saying is sure:If we have died with him, we will also live with him;12 if we endure, we will also reign with him;if we deny him, he will also deny us;13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—for he cannot deny himself.14 Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins those who are listening. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God

Page 6:   · Web viewIntroit Hymn – All stand as the choir and ministers enter the church

as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth. At the end the reader says This is the word of the Lord.

All Thanks be to God.Gradual Hymn – All Stand

And now let the weak say, "I am strong."Let the poor say, "I am richBecause of what the Lord has done for us"And now let the weak say, "I am strong."Let the poor say, "I am richBecause of what the Lord has done for us"

Henry Smith (1978)

Gospel Reading – Luke 17:11-19When the Gospel is announced the reader says Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John.

All Glory to you, O Lord.

11 On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, 13 they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” 14 When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. 15 Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. 16 He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. 17 Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made

Page 7:   · Web viewIntroit Hymn – All stand as the choir and ministers enter the church

clean? But the other nine, where are they? 18 Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

This is the Gospel of the Lord. All Praise to you, O Christ.

The Sermon – All sitThe Creed – All Stand

Let us declare our faith in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

All I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;he descended to the dead.On the third day he rose again;he ascended into heaven,he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.Amen.

Prayers of Intercession – We sit or kneelThe prayers end with the following:

Merciful FatherAll accept these prayers

for the sake of your Son,

our Saviour Jesus Christ.Amen.

THE LITURGY OF THE SACRAMENT

The Peace – All standBlessed are the peacemakers:they shall be called the children of God.We meet in the name of Christ and share his peace. The peace of the Lord be always with you

All and also with you.Let us offer one another a sign of peace. All may exchange a sign of peace.

Offertory Hymn Just as I am, without one plea, but that thy blood was shed for me,and that thou bidd'st me come to thee,O Lamb of God, I come.Just as I am, though tossed aboutwith many a conflict, many a doubt, fightings within, and fears without,O Lamb of God, I come.

Just as I am, poor, wretched, blind;sight, riches, healing of the mind, yea all I need, in thee to find,O Lamb of God, I come.Just as I am, thou wilt receive, wilt welcome, pardon, cleanse, relieve;because thy promise I believe,O Lamb of God, I come.

Just as I am (thy love unknownhas broken every barrier down)now to be thine, yea thine alone,O Lamb of God, I come.

Page 9:   · Web viewIntroit Hymn – All stand as the choir and ministers enter the church

Just as I am, of that free loveThe breadth, length, depth and height to prove,Here for a season then above,O Lamb of God, I come.

Charlotte Elliot (1789-1871)

The gifts of the people are gathered and presented. The table is prepared, and bread and wine are placed upon it.

Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendour, and the majesty;for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.

All All things come from you,and of your own do we give you.

Eucharistic Prayer The Lord be with you

All and also with youLift up your hearts.

All We lift them to the Lord.Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

All It is right to give thanks and praise.Blessed are you, Lord God,our light and our salvation;to you be glory and praise for ever. From the beginning you have created all thingsand all your works echo the silent music of your praise. In the fullness of time you made us in your image, the crown of all creation. You give us breath and speech, that with angels and archangelsand all the powers of heavenwe may find a voice to sing your praise:

All Holy, holy, holy Lord,God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.Hosanna in the highest.

Page 10:   · Web viewIntroit Hymn – All stand as the choir and ministers enter the church

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.Hosanna in the highest.

How wonderful the work of your hands, O Lord.As a mother tenderly gathers her children, you embraced a people as your own. When they turned away and rebelledyour love remained steadfast. From them you raised up Jesus our Saviour, born of Mary,to be the living bread,in whom all our hungers are satisfied. He offered his life for sinners, and with a love stronger than deathhe opened wide his arms on the cross.

On the night before he died,he came to supper with his friendsand, taking bread, he gave you thanks. He broke it and gave it to them, saying:Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you;do this in remembrance of me.

At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine,he gave you thanks, and said:Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.Christ is the bread of life:

All When we eat this bread and drink this cupwe proclaim your death, Lord Jesusuntil you come in glory.

Father, we plead with confidencehis sacrifice made once for all upon the cross;we remember his dying and rising in glory, and we rejoice that he intercedes for us at your right hand.Pour out your Holy Spirit as we bring before you

Page 11:   · Web viewIntroit Hymn – All stand as the choir and ministers enter the church

these gifts of your creation;may they be for us the body and blood of your dear Son.As we eat and drink these holy things in your presence, form us in the likeness of Christ, and build us into a living temple to your glory.

Bring us at the last with Hilda and all the saintsto the vision of that eternal splendourfor which you have created us;through Jesus Christ, our Lord,by whom, with whom, and in whom, with all who stand before you in earth and heaven,we worship you, Father almighty, in songs of everlasting praise:

All Blessing and honour and glory and powerBe yours for ever and ever.Amen.

The Lord’s PrayerLet us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:

All Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name;thy kingdom come;thy will be done;on earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,as we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation;but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.Amen.

Breaking of the BreadThe president breaks the consecrated bread.

We break this breadto share in the body of Christ.

All Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

Dear Lord and Father of mankind, forgive our foolish ways!

Page 13:   · Web viewIntroit Hymn – All stand as the choir and ministers enter the church

re-clothe us in our rightful mind,in purer lives thy service find,in deeper reverence, praise. In simple trust like theirs who heardbeside the Syrian sea,the gracious calling of the Lord, let us, like them, without a wordrise up and follow thee.Drop thy still dews of quietness, till all our strivings cease;take from our souls the strain and stress, and let our ordered lives confessthe beauty of thy peace.Breathe through the heats of our desirethy coolness and thy balm;let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,O still, small voice of calm!

John Grenleaf Whittier (1807-1892)

Prayer after CommunionSilence is kept after which the Post-Communion prayer is said.

Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us,and make us continually to be given to all good works;through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All Amen

All Father of all,we give you thanks and praise,that when we were still far offyou met us in your Son and brought us home.Dying and living, he declared your love,gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory.May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life;we who drink his cup bring life to others;
