In the name of God Amen, the xxvjth day of Februarij, an[no] d[omi]ni 1571, I, Thom[a]s Shawdfurth of Morton, husbandman, in the p[ar]yche of Dalton in the Vaile, w[ith]in the cou[n]tie off Duresme, seicke in my body but wholle in my mynd and of good remembrance at this p[re]sent tyme, thancks be to the loving Gode, makythe this my last will & testament in maner & forme folowing. First, I com[m]itt my soulle to the mercy of the loving God and my body to be buryed w[ith]in my p[ar]iche church of Dalton aforesaid. ffyrst, I will that Jennet Shawdfurthe, my wyffe, be the head ? w[ith] my thre son[n]es, Antony Shawdfurth, Jhon Shawdfurth & Thom[a]s Shawdfurth, of my fermold during her lyffe so long as she is my wyffe and aft[er] hir deathe, Antony, my eldest son[n]e, to have the one half of my fermolde and John & Thom[a]s to have the other half of my fermold unto suche tyme as the sayd John & Thom[a]s marye, and after ther maryadge my son[n]e Antony to hav the whole fermoldw[ith] the app[er]tenances. And if it fortune my said son[n]es John & Thom[a]s to mary before the death of my wyff, then I will my said soone Antony shall have the wholl fermold. And so long as they occupy all together, as is afore writen, all maner of costes & chardges to be taken off the wholle yf my said wyff be co[n]tent to byde & occupy as head w[ith] my said three soones & refuse hir thirdes, but & yf she claime her thirds then I will she shall have no occupac[i]on withe theme in the fermold nor nothing ells but hir thirds onely. lt[e]m, I gyve to my said soone Antony in legacey a bay staigge. I gyve to my said soone John a fole. I gyve to my said soone Thom[a]s a gray staigg. I gyve Jean[n]e, my daughter, in legacy a twy calf. Also I gyve to Jean[n]e, my daughter, for hir wholle child's parte, tenne pownds. And the rest of all my goods unbequest I gyve to my sayd soones Antonyjur, Johnjur, & Thom[a]sjur whome I make my full executors, the sayd Antony to have the one halfe of all my goods unbequest and the said John & Thom[a]s to have the other halffe of my goods and my said executors to pay all my debts and to distchardge all other things that of right owght to be done, according to th[is] my will. In the name of God, Amen, the xxv th day of ffebruarie, A[nn]o d[omi]ni 1591, I, Alllison Smythe of Dalton, widow, sicke in bodie but in full & p[er]fecte mynd & memorie (prayses be to God), make this my last will & testament in maner & fforme following, to witt, firste, I give & bequeste my soule into the hands of Allmightie God, my maker & onlie redeemer, steedfastlie beleevinge to be one of that ffaithfull & chosen number w[hi]ch is sanctified in Christe Jesus through ffaithe & purchased unto eternall salvation in his blood & my bodie to be buried in my p[a]rishe church of Dalton. Item, I give and bequeste unto Henrie Ludworthe, my eldeste sonne, the lease of my ffarmholde wherein I now dwell w[i]th the whole righte, interest & title thereof and the great arcke in the chamber. Item, I give & bequeste unto my sonne, Will[ia]m Symthe, one beede of clothes, as namlie, tow whitt happings, one paire of straikinge sheitts, one blanckett & one ffeather codde.
