During the seminar principles of IWM will be

explained, and an introduction to the contents of

the master program IWM at the DKU will be giv-

en. In addition, possible topics for the master the-

Content Learning outcomes

The subject of the course is to demonstrate the

role of the hydraulic structures in water sector,

including dams and power plants. The course re-

flects the modern tendencies in hydraulics struc-

tures design and foresees the study of the design

technologies and operations monitoring.

Content:

- Basics of hydrotechnics.

- Earthen dam structures

- Concrete dams structures

- Numerical modelling and calculations

- Outlet (spillway) structures

- Safety of waterworks structures

Content Learning outcomes

During the course of the evaluation seminar the data

that was collected independently in the field work

will be analyzed with qualitative or quantitative

methods or respectively with analysis methods. Fur-

ther it will be interpreted in regard to the already

formulated problem. The findings of the project will

be presented and discussed in the seminar.

Professional expertise:

- The subordinated topic of the PS serves the

preparation of the project

- Generation of a digital elevation model

(derivatives, methods of interpolation),

network analysis; project-oriented applica-

tion of GIS

Peace Research in Europe and Eurasia. This course introduces different concepts and

methodologies of peace research in Europe and

Eurasia behind the background of imbalances, dif-ferences and divides between both regions. Follow-

ing a general introduction it focuses on prospects

for peace research in Central Asia at different levels

(societal, state-level, international, transnational).

By the end of the course, students will be able

Содержание Результаты обучения Peacebuilding (PB) occurred at the end of the Cold

War as a viable intervention concept to prevent the

start or resumption of violent conflict by creating a sustainable peace; popularized in the international

community through the UN Secretary-General's

Agenda for Peace (1992), PB has since expanded

to include many different dimensions (from disarmament to reintegration, and rebuilding

governmental, economic and civil society

institutions) and develop relevant methods like

have gained knowledge of the PB concept, incl.

criticism, the relevance of the historical framework of PB and political stakes involved;

understand multilateralism / relevance of

intercultural dialogue/mediation for PB / develop

recognition for the regional/national resources /areas of cooperation in Central Asia for

(international) PB;

be able to compare different types of conflict,

dialogue and mediation strategies. An increasingly

ambivalent experience, however, with external third party interventions in crises has contributed to

criticism of PB being seen as a product of the

liberal democratic model which often tends to

neglect the local specifics of root causes and patterns of conflicts.

The course will explore and discuss the develop-

ment of the concept of PB, its advantages and shortcomings, and test it in practice. The course

will be held in four parts: Part I will look into the

genesis of the concept, its academic background and politico-practical implementation at UN level.

Part II and III will introduce and examine two very

different examples / cases of PB in practice: the

OSCE as a multilateral context, and the peace pro-cess in Northern Ireland as a West-European exam-

ple. Part IV will discuss the validity of PB against a

rapidly changing world

diversity; understand the significance of dealing with the past and the sustainability of PB solutions;
