To provide students of Northwest ISD expanded opportunities to enhance and accelerate their education through dual credit college coursework.

(Students can earn up to 60 college hours or an Associate’s degree from North Central Texas College (NCTC) by the date of high school graduation)

Allow students the opportunity experience the rigor of the college-level learning environment while receiving support from Steele advisors, whose focus is to facilitate a successful college experience.

College level courses that also meet high school requirements

With a passing grade, the student can receive college credit and meet high school course requirements at the same time

Courses can be taken at any NCTC campus, online or as a scheduled class at SAHS

Core or “basic” college transferable classes

NCTC has been participating in dual credit with Northwest ISD since the early 1990’s

$87 per credit hour (+$50 overload fee)

The NISD Collegiate Academy at Steele AHS

• Dual credit coursework for qualifying students beginning in 9th grade

• "Face to face" instructional delivery for grades 9 and 10 with adjunct availability

• Honors Collegiate coursework for qualifying students in grades 11 and 12

• "Face to face" or campus-based facilitated online instructional delivery for grades 11 and 12

• College coaching provided by NCTC coordinator and Academy facilitator

• Required advisory period beginning in grade 9• Individualized safety nets provided for each

student

Understanding Collegiate Academy

Requirements GPA Requirement 3.0 This means you will have all A’s and B’s in your high school courses. If your GPA does not meet this requirement, you will not be accepted into the Collegiate Academy.

Collegiate Academy students must have credit for Algebra I A & B before the beginning of their freshman year.

Must maintain A’s & B’s in college classes.

Must maintain a 3.5 GPA to qualify to take more than 2 dual credit classes junior and senior year.

TSI Assessment scores of 351 or

higher

The TSI Assessment is a college

readiness test.

NCTC, our partner in Dual Credit,

requires this test (or equivalent scores)

for all incoming students.

* The test has three parts: Math, Reading,

and Writing. Writing includes multiple

choice and an essay.

* The test is on a computer.

* You can start taking the TSI test this

summer.

A Collegiate Academy Honors student will- Engage in meaningful research and inquiry Have the opportunity to grow as a student and scholar Acquire prerequisites needed for acceptance into university

honors programs

Requirements- 3.5 overall high school GPA TSI Assessment score of 351 or higher on all portions Cumulative 3.0 GPA on all college coursework

Expectations-In-depth research projects presented to NCTC students, faculty, and staff on the college campus for each course.
