Energy Efficiency
…Energy Efficiency is the most cost-effective and reliable means of mitigating global climate change.
Two main ways to save energy…
Energy Conservation
Energy is conserved using fewer services and utilities that require energy.
Energy Efficiency is increased such that same services are delivered with less usage of energy.
Energy Management…
www.ems-int.com
Energy management is the management of processes and policies
designed to reduce energy consumption.

• Commissioning is a process of verifying and documenting that the
building Energy Systems are designed, installed and operated efficiently according to owner’s requirements and basis of design• It begins in pre-design and continues through design,
construction, and occupancy of the facility
• Commissioning is often misinterpreted as ‘Testing and Balancing’ (TAB), which is an activity at the end of construction by a contractor

Green and Sustainability Tools
www.ems-int.com
Buildings account for 1/3 of the world’s energy and materials consumption
Huge growth in global energy consumption expected as standards of living increase
40% of GHG emissions result from energy consumption in buildings
FACTS
www.ems-int.com
It’s the process of generating and managing building data during its life cycle
A computer program is used to calculate the design energy consumption, energy cost, design performance and the effect of any measure on the building performance
Its covers geometry, spatial relationships, light analysis, geographic information, quantities and properties of building components
WHAT IS ENERGY MODELING?
www.ems-int.com
Whole building energy modeling is quickly becoming an important part of smart design
This computer-age technique plays such an important part in green
design because of its speed, accuracy, and comprehensiveness
WHOLE BUILDING ENERGY SIMULATION
www.ems-int.com
You can predict the energy consumptionand saving before implementing the new policy or building modification by estimating the payback period or life cycle cost analysis
For LEED projects, you can compare the performance of the proposed design witha baseline design as per ASHRAE specification
WHY ENERGY MODELING
www.ems-int.com
You can predict the energy saving
during the building life cycle
Make your choices based on Knowledge and financial
considerations
Study the effect of each measure on the energy consumption

BENEFITS SUMMARY
www.ems-int.com
Most of LEED rating systems follow the regulations in ASHRAE 90.1-Appendex G
ASHRAE is a widely used and accepted international standard
The applicable code or standard will depend on the country or the selected certificate
JURISDICTIONS
www.ems-int.com
Energy modeling is the only way to demonstrate compliance with the full point total of energy performance credits. This is the single largest point total of any LEED credit, with 19 points available
You can design without meeting the ASHRAE perspective requirement
To demonstrate improvement in the proposed building performance
LEED & ENERGY MODELING
www.ems-int.com
Cost, User interface, accuracy, 3D graphics are important factors to consider when measuring a software’s strengths and weaknesses
Many modeling tools are available on the market
As knowledge and technical capabilities have expanded, Energy modeling has become an integral aspect of design
ENERGY MODELING TOOLS
www.ems-int.com
Imagine a building energy simulation tool comprehensive enough to be useful to ALL design team members
eQUEST is a sophisticated, yet easy to use building energy use analysis tool which provides professional-level results with an affordable level of effort

Clean DevelopmentMechanism (CDM)
www.ems-int.com
The Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is an arrangement under
the Kyoto Protocol allowing industrialized countries with a greenhouse
gas reduction commitment to invest in projects that reduce emissions
in developing countries as an alternative to more expensive emission reductions in their own countries.
WHAT IS CDM?
The CDM is supervised by the CDM Executive Board (CDM EB) and is under the guidance of the Conference
of the Parties (COP/MOP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
www.ems-int.com
Emissions trading is a way of introducing flexibility into a system where participants have to meet emissions targets.
These participants may be countries (as in the case of the Kyoto Protocol), or companies (as in the case of a domestic emissions trading scheme). Participants can buy units to cover any emissions above their targets, or sell units if they reduce their emissions below their targets.
The presence of a market for these units createsa value for emissions reductions which stimulates investment in the most cost-effective areas.
HOW DOES CARBON TRADING WORK?
www.ems-int.com
EMS, in collaboration with international companies assists organizations in the development of CDM projects by conducting all project cycle steps required for the participation in the Carbon Credits Program. EMS undertakes the following tasks:
Drafting the Project Information Note (PIN)
Investigating the CDM market and identifying the best buyers Initiating discussions and negotiations with buyersSecuring funding for the realization of the Project
Development Document (PDD) Drafting the PDD
Supporting buyers in securing project transaction.

EMS role:
The Concept:
Governments and Electric Utilities are committed to supply communities with their needs of electrical power. Billions of Dollars are usually invested to build new power stations to maintain security of supply in view of continues growth in electrical demands (3-7% annually).Daily and seasonal variations in demand are big challenges to governments and electric utilities to secure supplies and maintain profitabilityExample: Summer peaks due to air conditioning loads
• Analyze current electrical demand patterns• Determine the causes and contributions of peak loads• Determine peak load management measures and evaluate the
technical and economical feasibility of these measures• Design, implement and supervise Demand Side Management National
Programs• Evaluate success and effectiveness
