Dear Brothers and Sisters,
my letter this week will be short. Fr. Benito and I are attending a US Youth Day Meeting in Gettysburg, PA. This vocational meeting has been preceded by a National Youth Pilgrimage, and many of you saw pilgrims in Brockton this last week. While I welcomed pilgrims from Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas and Texas, Fr. Benito went with a group of 120 pilgrims from Massachusetts to visit Colorado and New Mexico. We are happy to dedicate our ministry and mission to serve the youth, those who we recognize as the future of the Church. I am also grateful for the beautiful celebration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel last Sunday! The music, folkloric dance and food, and the procession after our Noon Mass in the streets of Brockton have in fact brought me a lot of joy and the desire to keep investing in votive celebrations which are so special to our multiethnic community. Just before I complete this weekly letter, I was happy to welcome Mayor Robert F. Sullivan and Dr. Philip Garber S., Honorary Consul of Chile last Sunday. I am sure that both of them have an immense love for our people, and I am happy to have them close to our parish community. You will find pictures of these last events in this bulletin, as we prepare ourselves to rest a little bit before other upcoming events.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,
mi carta de esta semana será breve. P. Benito y yo asistiremos a un Encuentro Nacional de Jovenes en Gettysburg, PA. Este encuentro vocacional ha sido precedido por una Peregrinación Nacional de Jóvenes, y muchos de ustedes han conocido peregrinos en Brockton esta última semana. Mientras yo recibía aqui los peregrinos de Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas y Texas, el P. Benito fue con un grupo de 120 peregrinos de Massachusetts a visitar Colorado y Nuevo México. Estamos felices de dedicar nuestro ministerio y misión a servir a los jóvenes, aquellos a quienes reconocemos como el futuro de la Iglesia. ¡También estoy agradecido por la hermosa celebración de Nuestra Señora del Carmen el domingo pasado! La música, la danza folclórica, la comida, y la procesión después de nuestra Misa del mediodía en las calles de Brockton me han traído, de hecho, mucha alegría y el deseo de seguir invirtiendo en celebraciones votivas que son tan especiales para nuestra comunidad multiétnica. Justo antes de completar esta carta semanal, tuve el placer de dar la bienvenida al Alcalde Robert F. Sullivan y al Dr. Philip Garber S., Cónsul Honorario de Chile el domingo pasado. Estoy seguro de que ambos sienten un inmenso amor por nuestra gente y estoy feliz de tenerlos cerca de nuestra comunidad parroquial. FFIRST READING 2 Kgs 4:42-44 A man came from Baal-shalishah bringing to Elisha, the man of God, twenty barley loaves made from the first fruits, and fresh grain in the ear. Elisha said, “Give it to the people to eat.” But his servant objected, “How can I set this before a hundred people?” Elisha insisted, “Give it to the people to eat. For thus says the LORD, ‘They shall eat and there shall be some left over.’” And when they had eaten, there was some left over, as the LORD had said.

SECOND READING Eph 4:1-6 Brothers and sisters: I, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another through love, striving to preserve the unity of the spirit through the bond of peace: one body and one Spirit, as you were also called to the one hope of your call; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
GOSPEL Jn 6:1-15
Jesus went across the Sea of Galilee. A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick. Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. The Jewish feast of Passover was near. When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, “Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?” He said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do. Philip answered him, “Two hundred days’ wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little.” One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him, “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?” Jesus said, “Have the people recline.” Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted. When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, “Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted.” So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat. When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, “This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world.” Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone.

n aquellos días, acaeció que un hombre de Baal Salisá vino trayendo al hombre de Dios primicias de pan, veinte panes de cebada y grano fresco en espiga. Dijo Eliseo: «Dáselo a la gente y que coman». Su servidor respondió: «¿Cómo voy a poner esto delante de cien hombres?». Y él mandó: «Dáselo a la gente y que coman, porque así dice el Señor: “Comerán y sobrará”». Y lo puso ante ellos, comieron y aún sobró, conforme a la palabra del Señor.

SEGUNDA LECTURA Ef 4,1-6
ermanos: yo, el prisionero por el Señor, os ruego que andéis como pide la vocación a la que habéis sido convocados. Sed siempre humildes y amables, sed comprensivos, sobrellevaos mutuamente con amor, esforzándoos en mantener la unidad del Espíritu con el vínculo de la paz. Un solo cuerpo y un solo Espíritu, como una sola es la esperanza de la vocación a la que habéis sido convocados. Un Señor, una fe, un bautis-mo. Un Dios, Padre de todos, que está sobre todos, actúa por medio de todos y está en todos.
EVANGELIO Jn 6,1-15
En aquel tiempo, Jesús se marchó a la otra parte del mar de Galilea, o de Tiberíades. Lo seguía mucha gente, porque habían visto los signos que hacía con los enfermos. Subió Jesús entonces a la montaña y se sentó allí con sus discípulos. Estaba cerca la Pascua, la fiesta de los judíos. Jesús en-tonces levantó los ojos y, al ver que acudía mucha gente, dice a Felipe: «¿Con qué compraremos panes para que coman estos?». Lo decía para probarlo, pues bien sabía él lo que iba a hacer. Felipe le contestó: «Doscientos denarios de pan no bastan para que a cada uno le toque un pedazo». Uno de sus discípulos, Andrés, el hermano de Simón Pedro, le dice: «Aquí hay un muchacho que tiene cinco panes de cebada y dos peces; pero ¿qué es eso para tantos?». Jesús dijo: «Decid a la gente que se siente en el suelo». Había mucha hierba en aquel sitio. Se sentaron; solo los hombres eran unos cinco mil. Jesús tomó los panes, dijo la acción de gracias y los repartió a los que estaban sentados, y lo mismo todo lo que quisieron del pescado. Cuando se saciaron, dice a sus discípulos: «Recoged los pedazos que han sobrado; que nada se pierda». Los recogieron y llenaron doce canastos con los pedazos de los cinco panes de cebada que sobraron a los que habían comido. La gente entonces, al ver el signo que había hecho, decía: «Este es verdaderamente el Profeta que va a venir al mundo». Jesús, sabiendo que iban a llevárselo para proclamarlo rey, se retiró otra vez a la montaña él solo.
