Services are not being allowedindiscriminately on the parapet/anypart of the bridges, Safety of thebridges has to be kept in view whilepermitting various services alongbridge. Approvals are to be accordedin this regard with the concurrence ofthe Ministry's project Chief Engineersonly.

If crossing of the road involved. Ifyes, it shall be either encased in pipesor through structure of conduitsspecially built for that purpose at theexpenses of the agency owning theline.

5082.4 Methodology for laying of proposed Microtunneling /Pipe

2.4.1 Open trenching method (May be Agreedallowed in utility corridor only wherepavement is neither cement concrete r

nor dense bituminous concrete type).If yes, Methodology of refilling oftrench.

(a) The trench width should be at least 30 Agreedcm, but not more that 60 cm widerthan the outer diameter ofthe pipe.

(b) For filling of the trench, bedding shall be Agreedto a depth of not less than 30cm. It shallconsist of granular material, free of lumps,clods and cobbles and graded to yield afirm surface without sudden change in thebearing valve. Unsuitable soil and rockedged should be excavated and replacedby selected material.

(c) The backfill shall be completed in two Agreedstages (i) side-fill to the level of thetop of the pipe and (ii) overfill to-thebottom ofthe road crust. -

(d) The side fill shall consist of granular Agreedmaterial laid in 15cm .layers eachconsolidated by mechanical tamperingand controlled addition of moisture to95% of the Proctor's Density. Overfillshall be compacted to the same densityas the material that had been removed.Consolidation by saturation or pondingwill not be permitted.

(e) The road crust shall be built to the Agreedsame strength as the existing crust oneither side of the trench. Care shall betaken to avoid the formation of a dip at

flagman; signs and barricades and redlights during night hours.
