MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents,
Pope Francis recently declared September
1st as the World Day of Prayer for the
Care of Crea-on.
According to Pope Francis, “The annual
World Day of prayer for the Care of Crea-
-on offers to individual believers and to
the community a precious opportunity to
renew our personal par-cipa-on in this
voca-on as custodians of crea-on, raising
to God our thanks for the marvellous
works that He has entrusted to our care,
invoking his help for the protec-on of cre-
a-on and his mercy for the sins com-
mi5ed against the world in which we
live.”
We are asked to par-cipate in this event
by joining in the face book event, begin-
ning or ending your day with a prayer for
crea-on or joining with others for com-
munal prayer. For more informa-on

A Prayer for our Earth By Pope Francis
All-powerful God, you are present in the
whole universe and in the smallest of your
creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that
exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love, that
we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live as broth-
ers and sisters, harming no one.
O God of the poor, help us to rescue the aban-
doned and forgo5en of this earth, so precious
in your eyes.
Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect
the world and not prey on it, that we may sow
beauty, not pollu-on and destruc-on.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for
gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contempla-on, to
recognize that we are profoundly united with
every creature as we journey towards your
infinite light.
We thank you for being with us each day.
Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for jus-
-ce, love and peace.
As we welcome Spring, let us all reflect on
how we are stewards of our world.
Have a great week everyone.

your child is not returning to St Mary’s next year. Planning for 2017 is already taking place and it is vital we work
on accurate numbers for staffing etc. Please communicate your inten-ons of leaving by the end of this term.
School fees and levies
All school fees and levies are due to be paid in full by the 30th September 2016.
Car parking
Please follow the road rules when picking up or dropping off students outside the church in Manning Rd. The City
of Stonnington have advised us they will be regularly checking and will issue fines if necessary. The safety of all
road users is paramount.
It is only a 2 minute drop off zone at these -mes. If your child is not ready to be picked up at the end of the day,
you will need to find a legal parking space or go around the block. Everyone’s considera-on in this is appreciated.
Working Bee
Thank you for everyone who a5ended the working bee on the weekend. Not only did parents work together to
get a lot done, but some students also led the way– many hand truly do make light work!

Last week our Grade 3/ 4 students par-cipated in Hoop--me at MSAC.
Here are some recounts of the day:
ALEX Boom!, Boom!, Boom! My heart was pounding and my mood went up, I was in the All Stars team and I was going to play for my school. Excitedly I pulled out my shirt from the bag and saw my number, it was 35 and Kevin Durant has that number which gave me a little extra boost of joy.
My teammates played exceptionally well and I was very proud of them we made it to the semi finals which was a very good achievement. Suddenly, we found out that the all star girls team had made it into the grand final so everyone came to watch them play it was fantastic.
Thanks st marys !!!!
Izzy
I can NOT believe it, Today is going to be one of the
best days EVER., It's Hoop time 2016 today and I am
VERY excited. In my team is Myself, Milly, Zaria, Ty,
Molly and quite a few other people I forgot. I rushed
to school and waited for my friends to get here, how-
ever, only Ella came, I found out Milly was sick and
couldn’t come. We got into the bus and in minutes
we were there. Our first team we versed was Sacred
Heart, they won and we were soon in the next game.
In the end we only got to win 1 game but I don’t care
because it was only fun. I love Hoop time and I can’t
wait until next year!!!!!
On the 25th of August Grades 3 and 4 went to Hoop time. It was loads of fun. The All Star girls team was lucky enough to win the grand final! The game was really tight the whole way through but the girls managed to win by one point, and are going through to the next round. Another team going through is the Shark future star team. Well done to all the teams who participated.

Hoop Time
In the big noisy bus we were on our way to Hoop Time. When we first got there we had an an-nouncement. it was not long but still boring. When we finally got to leave we had to sit and watch a game. When my team got to play it was a very hard game! But luckily it was a draw 0 to 0. By the time it was recess my team was so hungry. We were nearly bored to death when we had to wait AGAIN! But the bad thing was that we lost. At the end of the day I was really tired. On the way back I was sitting next to Char-lie
I had so much fun! The End

PRESIDENTS REPORT
Well Hellooooo Spring!! Hands up who’s excited by the prospect of a splash of sunshine?......(insert pause… difficult to type with my
hand in the air!!)
We will be kicking it off in paternal style with the Dad’s enjoying a super yummy breakfast on our super new BBQ’s tomorrow am. A big
thank you to the grade 3 reps for sor-ng and co-ordina-ng this event. At lunch-me on this same day, the Grade 6’s will join the SMC
volunteers for Mass and lunch with the Parishioners.
Next day our Auskick ladies will close out their roles for 2016 brewing coffee, offloading snakes and freshly baked muffins from 9am at
the annual ‘Commando Day’ down at DW Lucas. Then over the weekend at the 6:15pm and 9am Masses, chocolates will be distributed
to all the Dad’s present in recogni-on of Father’s Day.
Then the spotlight moves to our Art Show on Wednesday night 7th Sept. The doors to this pres-gious event will open from 5pm. So to
all you ‘budding curators’ out there get yourselves over to the hall, grab you’re complimentary ‘bubbles’ (courtesy of the P&F) at the
door and prepare to immerse yourself in the prodigious talent of our kids who have worked incredibly hard under the expert tutelage of
our resident ar-st extraordinaire – Mrs Stanno!!
Wednesday 7th Sept between 1:30 and 2:45pm is also the last day of trade of the Uniform Shop at St Mary’s. From the 19
th September
uniforms can be purchased from Bob Stewart’s East Malvern shop on Waverley Rd. I would like to take this opportunity to thank
Amanda Vasta, Mel McLennan and Jo Mallick for their commitment to the uniform shop over the last couple of years. An added thanks
to Amanda for her addi-onal -me and efforts in managing the process of moving from “on-site” to “off-site”; and Kate (Teixeira) for her
‘legal eye’ across the contract documents.
It’s then Footy Colours Day on the 9th. A long standing tradi-on here at St Mary’s, the kids loving geVng behind their teams (of all
‘codes’) and enjoying a day of colour and sportsmanship. As an added bonus, the mums are spared lunch making du-es with the Hot
Food Ladies co-ordina-ng lunch delivery on this day. (Mmmm…. if you’re reading this and haven’t put in your order – stop reading now
and get on it!!)
Ticket sales for “Movie Mash Up”, this year’s highly an-cipated school concert go on sale from 10am on Tuesday 13th, so be sure to
have your fingers at the ready to make your booking.
The term will conclude with a liturgy from 12:15pm in the Hall on Friday 16th September. Then its holidays… yay, yay!!
Now… in reading this I hope you’re leW thinking – “Wow… there’s a whole lot of people who give a whole lot to uphold the vibrant
community that is on offer here at St M”… then I hope you’re thinking “Mmmm I am keen to get involved too… what are my strengths?
how can I join the ranks of this vibrant comraderie and contribute in 2017??” and for goodness sake, don’t think ‘oh it’s only Septem-
ber, there’s plenty of -me’… and for goodness sake, don’t be shy… as Johnnie Walker is reported to have said “your most important
step is your next one.” … and Yes, Banjo and I did read that on the bus stop shelter on when we were out running this morning!!!
Here’s the simple reality. AWer Monday night’s mee-ng (5/9), the P&F will meet once more in early October before the November
AGM. The -mings are similar for the PAEB. There will be a large exodus of ‘key individuals’ comple-ng their ‘terms’ within both forums
AND next year is a Fair Year! Now is the -me to start talking among yourselves and certainly talking to those who currently hold
roles to ascertain what’s involved and get onboard. There is no ques-on that we have a formidable force of ‘Indians’ but we need a
good spread of ‘Chiefs’ who are prepared to give Leadership in a role a decent crack! You will not be leW ‘stranded’ – we have infor-
ma-on folders available to guide you and of course, those who have held the role are more than happy to provide you with guidance.
You are most welcome to also ‘sit in’ on either of the next P&F mee-ngs.
For your added considera-on, the P&F is currently compiling a survey that will seek the community’s thoughts on some proposed ini-a-
-ves for 2017. Coming to a computer near you, your input will be sought via a survey monkey ques-onnaire. I encourage your comple-
-on of this in assis-ng the decision making process of the P&F moving forward.
I look forward to being overwhelmed with your enquiries and preparedness to commit. Happy Days, Bridget

Extend OSHC at St Mary’s Primary School
Weekly Recap
The week started with some rainy weather but that only inspired all the more creativity indoors! We saw some very impressive construction take the form buildings and mazes. Then we used recycled water bottles to make spectacular glow in the dark light sabers! When the sun finally came out on Tuesday we ventured outside for a run around and a play on the equipment. Later we got crafty with al foil, making everything from swords to boats, this activity proved very popular and many kids re-quested we do it again. Wednesday we were scientists! Mixing milk, food colouring and detergent made for some very cool results. The next day we had a few running and hoop relays in the playground. We also enjoyed some origami, making chat-a-
boxes and puppies, followed by some stunning jewellery making. We rounded off the week with some basketball on the courts. Inside we made our own dream catchers! We had every-
thing from Pokemon to fish to fairies! With the remaining beads we made some very lovely jewellery to match.
I look forward to seeing everyone next week.
