Day 4 Tuesday September 8, 2020 CorryongToday we travel to Corryong, in north-eastern Victoria. Morning: Visit Beechworth, one of Australia’s finest historic gold-mining towns. Visit the well-preserved Beechworth Historic Courthouse, where Ned Kelly was put on trial and subsequently sentenced. You may also wish to visit the Old Beechworth Gaol (optional) which, in the 1880s, housed Ned’s mother (Ellen Kelly), Ned & his gang, and Kelly sympathisers. Afternoon: Continue on to Corryong. In Corryong we visit the Man from Snowy River Museum. This excellent museum contains items and information relating to Jack Riley (almost certainly the main person Banjo Paterson’s famous poem, The Man from Snowy River, is based on). The museum also houses Jim Simpson’s Rug. This amazing ‘Australian Flag’ rug was knitted by local, Jim Simpson, whilst a prisoner of war, in Germany, during W.W.2. Evening: Enjoy some outstanding Nariel Creek style folk music. (The district of Nariel Creek, near Corryong, is famous for its annual folk festival). Overnight: Mountain View Motel, Corryong. (B,D)

Day 5 Wednesday September 9, 2020 CanberraMorning: Travel to Canberra, via Gundagai. In Gundagai, visit the Dog on the Tuckerbox monument. Afternoon: On arrival in Canberra, visit the Australian War Memorial. See one of the original Landing Craft, that took the ANZACs ashore, at Gallipoli. We will spend the whole afternoon at this outstanding museum. Evening: Enjoy a fun-filled singalong with John Howie & Gill Delaney. Bring your instruments & voices and join in! Overnight: Parklands Central Hotel, Canberra. (B)

Day 6 Thursday September 10, 2020 CanberraToday we visit three of Canberra’s outstanding attractions. At the National Gallery of Australia, see some of Australia’s most iconic paintings, including the series of Ned Kelly paintings, by Sidney Nolan, and The Drover’s Wife, by Russell Drysdale. At the National Museum of Australia, see hundreds of fascinating items, including Azaria Chamberlain’s clothes, Burke’s leather water bottle (Burke & Wills Expedition, 1860-61), and a beautiful blue Essington Lewis Holden (1949 Holden car). At Parliament House, see one of Australia’s most iconic paintings, The Big Picture, by Tom Roberts (1903), which depicts the first sitting of the Australian parliament, at the Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne, in 1901. We will also visit Old Parliament House. Evening: Dinner at one of Canberra’s excellent clubs; e.g., the Southern Cross Club. (B)

Day 1 Saturday September 5, 2020 MelbourneMorning: Visit the Museum of Victoria. See Par Lap, famous 1930s racehorse. Next to the museum, see the impressive Royal Exhibition Building (1879), venue for the opening of the first Commonwealth Parliament of Australia (9th May, 1901). Then visit the State Library of Victoria (see the La Trobe Reading Room, with its impressive domed ceiling and see Ned Kelly’s armour). Lunch (own expense), at Melbourne’s colourful Victoria Market. Afternoon: Visit the Australian Music Vault, at the Victorian Arts Centre. See items like one of Olivia Newton-John’s stage outfits and ‘school uniform’ stage outfit worn by Angus Young (AC/DC lead guitarist). Then visit the National Gallery of Victoria, to see the iconic Australian painting Shearing the Rams, by Tom Roberts. Also visit the Sydney Myer Music Bowl (where The Seekers performed to largest ever Australian concert audience (approx. 200,000 people, in 1967), and Flemington Racecourse (where the Melbourne Cup is run annually). Evening: Commencement of Tour Dinner, in one of Melbourne’s excellent restaurants. Overnight: Mercure Welcome Hotel, Melbourne. (D)

Day 2 Sunday September 6, 2020 BallaratMorning: Depart Melbourne and drive to the inland city of Ballarat. Just months after Victoria was granted separation from the state of New South Wales, in 1851, the Victorian gold rush transformed Ballarat from a small sheep station to a major settlement. Visit the Eureka Centre, located at the site of the 1854 Eureka Stockade rebellion. See one of Australia’s most revered cultural artefacts – the Eureka Flag. Also, visit Sovereign Hill, outstanding open-air museum/theme park, depicting life in Ballarat during the 1850s. Overnight: Mercure Ballarat, Ballarat. (B)

Day 3 Monday September 7, 2020 WangarattaMorning: Depart Ballarat and travel to Benalla, via Daylesford, Bendigo & Shepparton. Afternoon: In Benalla visit the Weary Dunlop Memorial. This excellent sculpture pays tribute to the bravery, compassion & leadership of Australian soldier/doctor/prisoner-of-war, Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop (W.W.2). In Glenrowan, visit the Ned Kelly Siege site. This is where Ned Kelly, dressed in a helmet and suit of armour made from ploughs, made his famous ‘last stand’, on 28th June 1880, following a siege between his gang and Melbourne troopers. Evening: In Wangaratta, enjoy a performance by outstanding Australian singer/songwriter/instrumentalist, Pete Denahy, & local singing sisters, Jenny Steer & Kate Cole (lovely Emmylou Harris type vocal harmonies). Overnight: Advance Motel Wangaratta, Wangaratta. (B)

Day 8 Saturday September 12, 2020 SydneySpend most of the day in The Rocks area (historic precinct, near the Sydney Opera House/Sydney Harbour Bridge). Morning: Enjoy a 1 hour Sydney Opera House Guided Tour (tour the inside of one of the world’s most iconic buildings). Then enjoy a walking tour of The Rocks area, including a visit to The Rocks Discovery Museum (see archaeological artefacts found in The Rocks area). See Cadman’s Cottage (1816), Sydney’s oldest surviving house. You will have time to explore The Rocks Markets (excellent outdoor market). John Howie will take those interested to the Art Gallery of New South Wales, to see iconic Australian paintings, including Bailed Up, by Tom Roberts (1895). Evening: A free night for you to explore Sydney’s live music scene at your leisure (optional) (B)

Day 9 Sunday September 13, 2020 TamworthMorning: Travel, via the New England Highway, to Tamworth, Australia’s country music capital. Afternoon: Visit Tamworth’s excellent Australian Country Music Hall of Fame. This museum includes stage outfits worn by the stars of Australian country music, & fascinating items like the Panther motorcycle Geoff Mack (wrote the song I’ve Been Everywhere) and his wife, Tabbi, rode from London to Australia, in 1954, and the cheap guitar Kasey Chambers took to South Africa (on holiday with her mum, in 2001), and with which she wrote several of her hit songs, including The Captain. We will also see the Country Music Pioneers Parade (bronze busts) in Bicentennial Park and visit the Big Golden Guitar Tourist Centre (excellent country music CD/DVD & souvenir store). Evening: Dinner & live country music at one of Tamworth’s excellent clubs. Overnight: City Sider Motel, Tamworth. (B,D)

Day 10 Monday September 14, 2020 KempseyMorning: Travel from Tamworth to Kempsey. Afternoon: A highlight of our tour… visit the Slim Dusty Centre, including the outstanding Slim Dusty Museum. David Kirkpatrick (Slim Dusty) grew up in the Kempsey region. The museum includes a fabulous collection of Slim Dusty memorabilia, including the actual caravan and purple car (‘Old Purple’) that Slim and Joy (Joy McKean…Slim’s wife) used to travel in, when touring Australia. Enjoy a special Tribute to Slim Dusty performance by one of Australia’s best bush ballad singers. Overnight: City Centre Motel, Kempsey. (B,AfternoonTea)

Day 11 Tuesday September 15, 2020 GraftonMorning: Travel inland, from Kempsey to Nulla Nulla Creek. See Slim Dusty’s boyhood home. Afternoon: Visit the Pub With No Beer, at Taylors Arm. Songwriter/recording artist Gordon Parsons wrote the song ‘A Pub With No Beer’ in the mid-1950s, based on the poem, ‘A Pub Without Beer’, written by Dan Sheahan, from Ingham, Nth Queensland, in 1943. Parsons maintained that the lyrics he wrote were about the pub at Taylors Arm, near his boyhood home. Lots of Pub With No Beer/Slim Dusty memorabilia on the walls of the pub. Enjoy barbecue lunch, at the Pub With No Beer, before travelling to Grafton. Evening: Enjoy dinner at the Grafton District Services Club. Overnight: Grafton Lodge Motel, Grafton. (B,MorningTea,L,)

Day 12 Wednesday September 16, 2020 TenterfieldMorning: Visit Grafton’s Schaeffer House Museum. Built by Grafton’s first architect (c. 1900) this beautiful house is home to the Clarence River Historical Society’s outstanding

Pete Denahy Pete Denahy is a musician and comedian from Yackandandah, Victoria. He is an outstanding singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist (guitar, fiddle, mandolin) and raconteur. He is famous for songs like Sort of Dunno Nothin’, The Petrol Head Fly, Looking At My Phone, & The Toilet Paper Song. His bluegrass album, Singin’ Shoes, won a Golden Guitar award, at Tamworth, in 2016. Pete will do a performance for us in Wangaratta. We will also be entertained by local singers, Jenny Steer & Kate Cole.

Nariel Creek Band

The Nariel Creek district, near Corryong, is famous for its distinctive early Australian folk music… particularly the style of playing, developed by the early settlers in the area, for the ‘old time’ tunes they played on instruments like the fiddle and accordion. The Nariel Creek Folk Festival has been held since the early sixties, and still happens annually, making it one of the longest running folk festivals in Australia. In Corryong we will enjoy a performance of Nariel Creek-style folk music.

Slim Dusty Tribute Slim Dusty (1927 – 2003) was an outstanding Australian country music singer/songwriter/guitarist/producer, & an Australian cultural icon. He won 37 Golden Guitar awards at Tamworth. At the time of his death he was working on his 106th album for EMI Records. One of the highlights of our tour will be a visit to the Slim Dusty Museum, in Kempsey. We will also see Slim’s boyhood home, at Nulla Nulla Creek, and enjoy a Slim Dusty Tribute performance by one of Australia’s best bush ballad singers.

Outback Spectacular

The Australian Outback Spectacular’s current dinner and show, ‘Heartland’, is a heart-warming indoor arena show with a star-studded cast, inspiring animal performances, and incredible special effects. The story depicts the struggles of Australian farmers, and life in the outback, as told through humour and quirky characters, set to the soundtrack of popular Australian country music. We will attend the Australian Outback Spectacular, on the Gold Coast, on the final night of our tour.

Peter Allen has perpetuated the memory of George Woolnough in one of his best-known songs, The Tenterfield Saddler. We will sing Peter Allen’s great song, I Still Call Australia Home. Also visit the Sir Henry Parkes School of Arts Museum. This historic building features the Banquet Hall, where Sir Henry Parkes delivered his famous ‘Federation Speech’ (1889). Overnight: Settlers Motor Inn, Tenterfield. (B)

Day 13 Thursday September 17, 2020 BrisbaneTravel to Brisbane, via Toowoomba. Morning: South of Toowoomba, visit Rudd’s Pub, where Steele Rudd is said to have written some of his On Our Selection (Dad and Dave) stories. Afternoon: In Toowoomba, visit the excellent Cobb & Co Museum, home to the National Carriage Collection. On arrival in Brisbane see two historic convict-built structures….The Old Windmill (late 1820s) and the Commissariat Store (1829). In the Brisbane suburb of Redcliffe visit the outstanding Bee Gees Way, a commemorative 70 metre walkway/display that honours The Bee Gees (they grew up in Redcliffe, approx. 1958 to 1965). Evening: Enjoy an evening of live music, at either Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall or the Brisbane Jazz Club. Overnight: Ibis Brisbane. (B,MorningTea)

Day 14 Friday September 18, 2020 Gold CoastTravel to the Gold Coast. On arrival, sightseeing coach tour of the Surfers Paradise/Gold Coast area. Visit the SkyPoint Observation Deck, for 360° views of the Gold Coast, the sea, and the distant green hinterland, from level 77, SkyPoint, Surfers Paradise. Afternoon: Free time, for you to explore the Surfers Paradise/Coolangatta area at your leisure. Evening: Attend the Gold Coast’s outstanding Outback Spectacular. The current show, Heartland, takes you on a compelling and emotional ride into the heart of the Australian bush. The indoor arena show features Australian characters, amazing technology, and magnificent animals (including spectacular horse-riding). A 3-course meal is included. Overnight: Alpha Sovereign Hotel, Gold Coast. (B,D)

Day 15 Saturday September 19, 2020 Journey to MelbourneMorning: Commence flights home, from Coolangatta or Brisbane airports. Coach journey commences back to Melbourne, via the Newell Highway. It is important that all tour participants have a basic level of physical fitness that allows them to take part in this activity without the need of assistance from others.

Tour Operator: Travelrite International Pty Ltd. A.C.N. 005 817 0781 (Travelrite International) is the tour operator.Tour Costs: The tours costs are based on transport, accommo-dation costs and entrance costs at 1 September 2019. Travelrite reserves the right to alter the costs if any of these factors change, giving any passenger that has booked the right to withdraw with full refund of monies paid or modify arrangements. No alterations to costings will be made within 60 days of departure.Deposits and Payments: A deposit of $500 per passenger is required at the time of booking. Full payment will be required 60 days before departure. The tour manager will be John HowieJohn Howie was a secondary school music teacher for 23 years (taught

Kylie Minogue). He and his twin brother, Graeme, perform as the country music/easy listening act, The Howie Brothers. John has been

operating and leading successful music tours and music cruises for 25 years, including Ireland & Scotland, the US, Australia, NZ, and other parts of the world. John says his & Travelrite’s primary

goal, with the music tours (& cruises), is to offer outstanding travel ‘products’, with music as an additional, special focus.

The organisers reserve the right to change any details of the tour that they believe will enhance the safety, quality, success and smooth running of the tour.
