Summary
This story is about the adventures of Peter Duchene in the little town of Baltese. Peter lost his parents and his sister vanished. Peter is living in an orphanage but has strange thoughts about his sister. Is she still alive? Is she really dead? Vilna Lutz the runner of the orphanage sends Peter into town with money to buy food at the fish market. Peter realizes in the corner of his eye a fortuneteller booth. Peter can’t stand but to go to the booth. He knows Vilna would be mad but can’t help but ask the fortuneteller “is my sister still alive”. The fortuneteller responds, “follow an elephant.” Peter doesn't now what to think, is she lying, is she telling the truth. If she weren't this would be Peter’s dream come true. Read the Magician’s Elephant to read about Peter’s adventure and if he finds an elephant to lead him to happiness or if he regrets ever asking.
