Continuing the signature, satiri- cal comedy of previous efforts, Griffin is cast in the lead role for several big-budget action movies set in the Old West, ancient Rome and an aircraft carrier in the series of three 60-and 30-second spots. Much to the concern of his directors, Griffin begins improvising and replaces his scripted mode of transport - be it horse, chariot or fighter jet - arriving instead in the Kia Optima, and making each movie better if he does so say himself. The first spot, "Showdown," begins airing online today and on television on Christmas day during NBA program- ming with the others debuting throughout the NBA season. "As a global brand ambassador, this marks Blake's fourth campaign for our best-selling Optima and he keeps getting better and better," said Tim Chaney, vice president of marketing communications, KMA. "The Optima has been Kia's most popular vehicle since the time when our partnership with Blake began, and he has helped us foster con- nections with basketball fans across the country, increase aware- ness and enhance our brand image." Created by David&Goliath, Kia's advertising agency of record, the Griffin spots can be viewed as they roll out on all of Kia's social and digital platforms, including YouTube.com/Kia and Kia.com. In addi- tion to the spots, an exclusive virtual staring contest with Blake Grif- fin will launch on the recently redesigned Tumblr page, blinkgriffin.com. Mumbai, (IANS) Actor Aamir Khan's recently released film "PK" has seen a string of controversies and this has slightly affected the box office collection of the film in a few pockets and has also got police protection at theaters. Ashish Saksena, COO at BIG Cinemas, told IANS: "PK has been doing well but from last two to three days there has been a downfall in the collections due to the controversies. But overall it's been doing great and nobody can deny that 'PK' is the biggest film ever." However, it's also been said that once the censor board has passed the film, nothing can be changed. Rajesh Thadani from Multimedia Combines said: "Censor Board is the ultimate authority and they have passed the film, so we should respect their decision." After watching "PK", Hindutva groups Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad were so livid that they went on a rampage in Ahmedabad and Bhopal, smashing theatres screening the film. Also, members of the Bajrang Dal allegedly vandalised theatres in Ahmedabad and de- manded a ban on the screening of the Aamir Khan starrer. In Agra, a "PK" screening was disrupted by protesters who accused Aamir Khan of double standards and allegedly even asked him to move to Pakistan. The film has also been affected in a few pockets elsewhere in the country. Rajesh Thadani said: "Yes, the film has been affected in a few pockets like Gujarat, but as we rightly say controversies have added extra publicity to the film. So, it's only going to help the film in coming days." "PK" has been getting police protection in multiplexes and single screens. Vishal Anand, COO of Fun Cinemas, said: "The film is doing excep- tionally well and these controversies have not affected the film at all. Yes, we have been getting police protection." Adding to this, Thadani said: "Not just multiplexes, even single screens has been getting police protection." Despite all the controversy, the film has managed to collect more that Rs.200 crore, which is outstanding. Kamal Gianchandani, president of PVR Pictures, said: "The business has been usual and there has been no impact on the collections. The film has crossed Rs.200 crore mark, which is outstanding." Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, "PK" also features Anushka Sharma among others. The film was released Dec 19.

SIMPLE STEPS TO DO-IT-YOURSELF SMOKY EYE MAKE UPLondon, (IANS) With 2015 knocking at the door, it's time to don thepar ty look for New Year's Eve. Try the smoky eye look -- it's quick todo, easy to master and looks great with any outfit.Use these simple steps for it, repor ts mirror.co.uk.* Use the right mix of lighter and darker eye shadows: A smoky eye isessentially created by blending together lighter and darker shades ofeyeshadow to create a smudged effect.* Choose your colour: Star t by choosing a good eyeshadow palettewith at least three shades.* Apply the shadow: Apply a layer of the lightest shade as a base, then blend some of the medium grey into your socket line.* Highlight the corner of eyes with dark shade: Finish by applying abit of the darkest shade to the corners of your eye - winging it outslightly to create a little flick as this will make your eyes appearbigger.* Line it up: Give your look some extra impact by adding a blackeyeliner. Pick a soft liner as this gives it more of a subtle smudgedeffect. Line the top of your eyes, creating a flick to match youreyeshadow, then add a bit to the outer corner of your bottom lash line.* Finishing touch: Finish off by sweeping mascara over your top andbottom lashes. Avoid unsightly clumps by choosing one with a finebristled brush.

Pep up your look with false eyelashesLondon, (IANS) False lashes are the best thing to create an eye-catching look for the par ty season, but they can be tricky to put on.However, your fears can be put to rest with simple tips.Celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence and super chic Rosie Huntington-Whiteley wear lashes effor tlessly, repor ts mirror.co.uk.Here's how to use them easily:* Remove gently from the packet with tweezers as false lashes are very deli-cate. Measure the strip against the eye as one size does not fit all. And if they are toolong, snip with nail scissors. Twirl the lashes around a pencil or something similarto gently break the spine so they will fit the shape of your lid.* Cover the length of the spine of the lashes with the glue providedand wait a couple of seconds for it to go tacky. Don't worry if the gluelooks messy when applying as it will dry clear. Then, looking downyour nose into a mirror, place one lash on the outer edge of your eye.* Next, press down over the top edge of your lash right along to yournose. Using a cotton bud you can push the lash right down into thebase of your natural lash line so it holds better.* Apply the next one then add lots of mascara to your natural lashesto bond them to the false ones.Voila, you're ready to go!

London, (IANS) With no drugs available to treat Ebola, all eyesare now on a therapy that had largely been relegated to thehistory books. The therapy is all about transfusing patients with blood plasmadonated by survivors, which contains antibodies against the virus, scientific journal Nature reported.Clinical trials of convalescent plasma therapy (CPT) have star ted inthe past few weeks in Liberia and are due to begin soon in Guineaand Sierra Leone. If the therapy saves lives, the approach could quickly be scaled up.Success would also raise awareness of CPT's potential to treatother new and emerging infectious diseases for which there are noreadily available effective drugs or vaccines, such as SARS, avianinfluenza and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)."Clinical trials of convalescent plasma should be considered inother emerging infections," David Heymann, infectious disease re-searcher at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicineand chair of Public Health England, was quoted as saying. Results from the first safety and efficacy trials in West Africa areexpected within weeks. If the therapy is effective, many of the thousands of Ebola survivorsthere will be potential donors, each capable of giving up to one litreof plasma every two weeks."Even relatively poor countries often have a good enough infrastruc-ture for processing blood to use the therapy," Heymann said. However, adequate screening for pathogens in donated blood canbe an issue in poorer countries. In the CPT Ebola trials, a chemical is being added to the donatedblood. When the mixture is exposed to ultraviolet light, the com-pound irreversibly crosslinks the DNA and RNA of pathogens, pre-venting their replication. Many scientists have long argued that CPT has been wrongly ne-glected, both as a therapy for emerging diseases and in preparationfor future unknown threats.Today, the approach is gaining ground.Trials of convalescent plasma are beginning for the treatment ofpatients with MERS, which has infected 938 people and killed 343of them since it was discovered in 2012, the repor t added.

BLOOD-BASED THERAPYAN ANSWER TO EBOLA?"Clinical trials of convalescent plasma should beconsidered in other emerging infections," DavidHeymann, infectious disease researcher at theLondon School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicineand chair of Public Health England, was quotedas saying. Results from the first safety and efficacy trials inWest Africa are expected within weeks.
