www.cropproductiononline.com SUPPLEMENT TO THE WESTERN PRODUCER
On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I congratulate the Western Canadian Crop Production Show on celebrating its 35th anniversary. The show brings together the agricultural community with leading edge suppliers in crop production industry, from experts in fertilizing, cleaning, sorting, storage, drying, handling and transporta-tion, to those in equipment manufacturing and farm business management. This event has a reputation as Saskatchewan’s leading grain industry show. I thank the organizers, exhibitors and sponsors for their ongoing commitment to showcasing what we do well in Saskatchewan.
2017 was a year when producers dealt with and overcame many challenges. The extended hot and dry summer conditions in the southern and central areas of the prov-ince cut into many producers’ yields, though fewer fall rainfalls allowed harvest to proceed with fewer stops. Many Saskatchewan fields ended the year dry, so lack of moisture remains a concern as we enter a winter where we hope snowfall cover followed by good spring rains will bring these levels up to par. All things considered, provincial yields were still about even with our 10-year average, with generally above-average crop quality.
The unknowns in farming, the challenges with weather and the need to always think how
to better manage our farming operations – these are all big reasons why this show is important. The ideas discussed here can help manage risk, control input costs and improve returns. All the facts show our farmers are stepping forward to take those actions. Over the last decade, every statistic, whether it be total production or value-added processing or export markets sales, has shown tremendous growth. That doesn’t happen by standing still. I am sure some of those changes started from ideas producers saw at Western Canadian Crop Production Show -- if there is anything we know, it’s that farmers are always pushing to grow more, harvest more and maximize all they do on their operations.
The Ministry of Agriculture is proud to again support the Crop Production Show and we wish you all the best for another exciting and productive event. Just as this event has a proud 35-year history to celebrate, we look forward to another 35 and hopefully more as our industry opens new markets and moves in new and exciting directions.
LyLE StEwArt MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE
WELCOME FROM ThE MINISTER OF AGRICULTUREOn behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I am pleased to welcome you to the 35th Annual Western Canadian Crop Production Show.

Wow – 35 years of Western Canadian Crop Pro-duction Shows! The show founders understood the importance of an annual event focusing on the western Canadian crop industry but even they would be impressed by the size, scope and significance of today’s version. What a credit to those founders and everyone who has taken part in making the show what it is in 2018.
As someone who “worked in the booth” at many of the early versions, I too am most impressed. Saskatoon Prairieland Park Corp. is very proud of this show, one of our signature annual events. Most important is that the WCCPS continues to focus on relevance to crop producers and the industry, from science to marketing, that serves them with continued emphasis on technological
advances and a view to the future, be it the up-coming growing season or beyond.
The WCCPS is an integral component of SPPC’s mandate — “Showcasing agriculture in a posi-tive marketing environment”. On behalf of the SPPC Board of Directors, a special thanks to the many members and supporters who volunteer on WCCPS committees or assist with show set-up, and to the tremendous work and dedication of the SPPC Agriculture Department in produc-ing this annual event.
To the exhibitors, producer, and patrons, thanks for your ongoing support and best wishes for a successful 2018 show and a safe and profitable 2018 growing season.
Welcome to the 35th Western Canadian Crop Production Show. The 2018 show continues the tradition of providing farmers with access to the most advanced products and services in the in-dustry.
This year the show welcomes its exhibitors as they present the latest in production technolo-gy that keeps Western Canadian farmers among the top crop producers in the world. Farmers from across Western Canada will have the op-portunity to attend the information theater and hear from topical speakers presenting the latest in production technology.
Over the last thirty-five years, the show has seen significant changes in the services, products and technology offered. Change will continue as technology evolves in adapting and using drones and mapping in agriculture. Introduction of new crops, advancements in seed and pro-duction practices will bring an expanding array of equipment and consultation services.
On behalf of the Western Canadian Crop Pro-duction Show committee, staff and volunteers, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the show and wish you the very best for 2018.

SPEAkEr – BArB ZIESmANBarb Ziesman is the Provincial Plant Disease Specialist with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture. She grew up in Edmonton, Alberts where she attended the University of Al-berta and received a PhD in Plant Pathology with a focus on Sclerotinia stem rot of canola. Barb moved to Regina in 2015 to begin her career with the Ministry of Agriculture and has been in her current position since May 2016.
PRESENTaTiON OuTliNEBiosecurity is a valuable tool that can be used to prevent the introduction of soil-borne diseases and other crop pests. With clubroot being confirmed in commercial canola fields in Saskatchewan in 2017, on farm biosecurity practices to prevent the introduction and spread of the disease have become increasingly important. This presentation will in-troduce biosecurity practices and discuss how they can be implemented on farm to reduce the risk of introducing new crop pests and soil-borne diseases such as clubroot.

Let’s talk fertilizer!
“In the years of using PowerRich, we’ve noticed healthier plants all season long and have higher proteins in our wheat from a full package of micro nutrients in PowerRich starter paks fertilizer. Less bulk saves us valuable time and less salts is better for our soil.”

www.cropproductiononline.com SUPPLEMENT TO THE WESTERN PRODUCER
Each year during the second week of January, Saskatoon comes alive with a focus on agriculture. In addition to the Western Canadian Crop Production Show, there are a host of meetings and gatherings organized by Crop Production Week and CropSphere.
CropSphere 2018 will be held at TCU Place in downtown Saskatoon on January 9 and 10. While there is a registration fee to attend CropSphere, there is no registration charge to attend any of the annual general meetings (AGMs) of the commodity groups that organize CropSphere. Please see the CropSphere schedule on the following pages for the times and locations of each AGM.
Once again, some of the Crop Production Week information meetings and AGMs will be at Prairieland Park, but several will be at the Saskatoon Inn. The Saskatchewan Soil Conservation Association meeting is at Western Development Museum and the main Saskatchewan Agricultural Graduates’ Association event is at TCU Place. Please take note of the dates and locations for the meetings you would like to attend.
The best way to get all the latest meeting details is through the websites: www.crop-week.com and www.cropshere.com, but the following pages will provide the times and locations as well as the plan for speakers.
CropSphere will have a free shuttle service between its host hotels, TCU Place and Prairieland Park.
See you in Saskatoon!
