Don Antonio's Dispatch………… We are now entering the holiest week of the year (hence the name Holy Week). I cannot stress enough how important it is to participate in these liturgies, as what we celebrate at every Mass, and especially on Sundays (the Paschal Mystery–Jesus’ suffering, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension), is made present for us in a more vivid way, and we are able to participate in the very way that we were saved. Some of the times for the litur-gies may be tough to attend due to work (though, Good Friday is a great use of personal time or vacation time if you have paid time off), but there are so many options that hopefully you can make one each day. Holy Thursday: 7:00 p.m. At our parish, we begin with the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. We enter into the night when our Lord instituted both the Eucharist and the Priesthood, and when He washed the feet of His apostles. Following the liturgical norms that have been in place, as well as recently updated by Pope Francis, only I will wash the feet of people. With the advice of the Worship Committee, I have asked individuals to represent the following groups: Those becoming Catholic this Easter; senior citizens; a high school student; a St. Pius X School student; a choir member; and a CCD catechist (for a total of 7 people). We will also have our Gethsemane set up in the Bishop Povish Community Room, with an altar of repose for the Blessed Sacrament. People can keep watch with Jesus, as Jesus asked of His disciples, until 11 p.m. Please consider sacrificing an early bed time for our Lord. Good Friday: Stations of the Cross: 12:30 p.m. I will be leading Stations of the Cross using the version by St. Alphonsus Liguori. This is a beautiful devotion, but if you can only choose one thing to do on Good Friday, choose one of the other options. Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion: 2:00 p.m. This is the continuation of the Holy Thursday Liturgy, and celebrates our Lord’s Passion. We have the veneration of the cross, by which we were saved, and we receive Holy Communion from what was consecrated on Holy Thursday. Tenebrae: 8:00 p.m. This is new to St. Pius X this year, but has been done in other surrounding parishes. It is a beautiful, somber, and almost haunting time of prayer, as we go from light to darkness. Psalms and readings from Scripture are proclaimed, and candles are extinguished, with a loud and powerful end to the prayer. Please join us!! Holy Saturday: Blessing of Easter Food: 12:30 p.m. Easter Vigil: 8:30 p.m. This is the holiest night of the year, and the closing of the three-day liturgy of the Sacred Tridduum. We will begin with the Easter fire outside, proclaim the beauty of the light with the new Paschal Candle, hear salvation history through the Word of God, and baptize and confirm new members of our parish. At most other parishes this is the worst attended Easter Mass, but I have heard that here many people come to the Easter Vigil, and that is something to be proud of!! Please keep up this great tradition of celebrating with our new Catholics and joyfully proclaiming that Christ is risen from the dead!!
If you would like to help decorate the Community Room on Wednesday, April 12 at 9:00 am for Gethsemane
and also on Holy Saturday, April 15 at 10:00 am to decorate the Church for Easter, please contact the church office (810) 235-8574.
PALM SUNDAY OF THE PASSION OF THE LORD APRIL 9, 2017
ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC SCHOOL FAITH MOVING FORWARD Website: www.spxparish.com
With Palm Sunday we begin Holy Week
What a beautiful and exciting time in our parish and school life. The children are on spring break (clearly a wonderful time for any school principal) but the important part of their school life is just ahead. Holy Week is the most important week in our church calendar and it also marks a culmination of everything our school teaches. It marks the reason we have a Catholic school. The children learn about Jesus and the church all year long and it is during this week that we revisit the final moments of Christ's life on earth. What a great opportunity for parents to take part in the worship opportunities this week at our church. Parents sacrifice so much to send their children to a Catholic school and I urge all parents to reap the benefits of that sacrifice by attending Holy Week Liturgies. I hope to see you there! Religious Education Department
Level I and Level II have made great impacts on the hearts of our children. We have seen them grow to understand the Mass and be more attentive while at Mass, loving to pray and leading prayers services, who the Good Shepherd is, liturgical colors and more. They really do know Jesus. Please keep the continuation of this program in your prayers.
Why was the Alleluia missing during Lent? It was buried on Ash Wednesday but do we know why? We join Jesus in the desert during Lent. We sacrifice, we give alms and we pray that we might be closer to Him; Jesus. The word Alleluia is a word of
praise and joy. Lent is a dry time; a time of reflection. If you have found the Alleluia you are very blessed. The Alleluia reappears in our hearts, our minds and with our voice on Easter Sunday. Christ has Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia!
St. Pius X Youth Group: No Youth Group. Hope you are enjoying Spring break. See you at the mandatory Confirmation practice on Sunday, April 23 at 1:30 pm at St. John’s,

look its best this Easter season.
I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you that sent me your love and support during my latest “issues” with my health a few weeks ago. Whether it was a card, an email or the countless prayers, it helped me get better quicker, I am sure.
Thank you and I will keep you all in my prayers daily as well. Diane Pierce
