Modi for solid results at Paris talks -

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that India looked forward to a

concrete outcome at the Paris climate talks within the framework of U.N.

Convention on Climate Change that should have an appropriate balance of

collective action: equity and common but differentiated responsibility and

respective capabilities.

U.N. Convention on Climate Change - The United Nations Framework

Convention on Climate Change is an international environmental treaty (also

known as a multilateral environmental agreement) that was opened for

signature at the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and came into

force in 1994.

All set for Pushkar Fair -

The Pushkar Fair or locally Pushkar ka Mela is an annual five-day camel and

livestock fair held in the town of Pushkar in the state of Rajasthan, India. It is

one of the world's largest camel fairs.

British financial aid to propel Pune’s ‘smart city’

dream –

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the United Kingdom has ushered in hope for Pune’s dream of becoming a smart city with Mr. Modi’s counterpart David Cameron announcing British technical and financial aid to develop Pune, Amravati and Indore.

SMART CITIES –

SMART CITY uses digital technologies or information and communication

technologies (ICT) to enhance quality and performance of urban services, to

reduce costs and resource consumption, and to engage more effectively and

actively with its citizens.

The total number of 100 smart cities have been distributed among the States

and UTs on the basis of an equitable criteria.

The formula gives equal weightage (50:50) to urban population of the State/UT

and the number of statutory towns in the State/UT.

Maximum cities selected are in Uttar Pradesh (13).

CBI seeks statutory powers under PMLA –

The Central Bureau of Investigation has sought statutory powers under the

Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to conduct probe into proceeds

of crime, attach tainted properties and prosecute accused persons.

PMLA - The Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 forms the core of

the legal framework put in place by India to combat money laundering. PMLA

and the Rules notified there under came into force with effect from July 1,

2005.

India, Australia seal nuclear deal procedures –

India announced on Sunday that the procedures for a civil nuclear agreement with Australia for supply of uranium from it had been completed

India will be the first country to buy Australian uranium without being a signatory to the NPT.

NPT is a landmark international treaty whose objective is to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy and to further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament and general and complete disarmament.

For the first time, schools across the country will observe Constitution

Day on November 26.

It was on November 26, 1949, that the Constitution was adopted in the

Constituent Assembly following which the Constitution came into force

Interpol brings in ‘Silver Notice’ to trace illicit

assets -

Interpol has introduced a new system of international alert titled “Silver Notice” to assist member countries in locating and seizing assets acquired through criminal means.

WPI inflation at -3.8 per cent, 12th straight

month in negative territory –

WPI inflation in October was -3.8 per cent, compared with -4.5 per cent in September, the 12th consecutive month in which WPI inflation was negative.

One of the statistical reasons for WPI inflation remaining negative for so long is the high-base effect.

Base Effect - The consequence of abnormally high or low levels of inflation in a previous month distorting inflation numbers for the most recent month.

A base effect can make it difficult to accurately assess inflation levels over time.

ICICI Bank to sell 6% stake in life insurance arm

ICICI Bank, the largest private sector lender, on Monday said it would sell 4 per cent stake in its life insurance arm.

Greece strikes deal for €12-billion bailout funds –

Greece announced Tuesday it has struck a deal with its international creditors to unblock some €12 billion in much-needed bailout loans.

Greece in July accepted a three-year, €86-billion EU bailout.

Apex court nod for draft paper on appointment of

judges –

These suggestions from the Bench were gleaned from over 15,000 pages of views which poured in from the public and legal communities across the country on ways to reform the opaque collegium system.

The Bench undertook to reform the 21-year-old collegium system, which was restored after it struck down the NJAC.

President appoints Justice Thakur CJI –

President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday appointed Justice T.S. Thakur, the Chief Justice of India with effect from December 3.

He will replace H.L. Dattu

Pay panel moots 23.5% hike, to cost govt. Rs

1.02 lakh cr –

The Seventh Central Pay Commission has recommended an overall increase of 23.55 per cent in pay, allowances, and pension for government employees.

Within this, the Commission’s report recommends a 16 per cent increase in basic pay

63 per cent increase in allowances and a 24 per cent hike in pension. The recommendations are to come into force on January 1, 2016.

The total monetary impact on the central government would be Rs 1.02 lakh crore. Around Rs 74,000 crore would be the impact on the Union Budget and Rs 28,000 crore on the Railway Budget.

Centre to auction eight blocks in fourth round –

The government will auction eight coal blocks for the unregulated sector, which includes — iron, steel, cement and capacitive power plants — in the fourth round of e-auctions.

The coal blocks to be put on auction include Brahmapuri and Suliyari in Madhya Pradesh, Bundu and Gondulpura in Jharkhand, Gondkhari and Khappa & Extn in Maharashtra and Jaganathpur A and Jaganathpur B in West Bengal.

Two Indian-origin businessmen have been ranked by Forbes magazine among the richest entrepreneurs in America under the age of 40, a list that has been topped by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Vivek Ramaswamy, 30, a former hedge fund manager, has been ranked 33rd on the list with a net worth of $500 million.

On the 40th spot is 29-year old Apoorva Mehta, the founder and CEO of Instacart, the web-based grocery delivery service.

Modi promises IPR policy, transparent tax regime

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said here that India would have a comprehensive national intellectual property rights (IPR) policy by the year-end
