Slide 4
Jesus is portrayed as an old man who falls out of a tree and is
humiliated by a Pilate figure. Jesus is portrayed as weak,
exhausted and worn out.
Slide 5
It is relevant to today because it reaches out to young people/
Young people do suffer with Religion. Title of the song is a
challenge and inspirational. It acknowledges the challenges we go
through in life.
Slide 6
Religion is an accessory that can be lost and found. It lets us
see a search for meaning. It suggests that they are second guessing
their religion. Spotlight- the more a person develops and finds
themselves, the more they are losing their religion. Possibly,
drifting away from their religious ideas as they realise that their
parents conditioned them to be religious. To lose religion, is to
lose control or lose your mind. It is to lose touch with the ideas,
principles and beliefs upon which all others seem to rest.
Slide 7
The concept of religion and its effect on society. They are
losing their religion due to the surrounding world. Are people
professing their faith like they did in the past? Has the world
lost a sense of religion?
This image challenges the notion of Jesus, and ultimately of
God, as being the preserve of any one ethnic group or indeed
gender. In a multicultural and multi-faith society, it suggests
that Jesus came to save us all and should be accessible to all
creeds and cultures. She wants to remind us that we are all created
in Gods likeness.
Slide 12
She uses an African American woman, possibly to suggest an
understanding of Jesus as someone who stands with those who are
marginalised. It brings a new cultural perspective to Jesus, as it
strays from the norm toward a multicultural depiction that many
more people can connect to. It shows that Jesus could have been any
colour, sex or culture.
Slide 13
This is a haunting image of a peasant Jesus dark, thick-lipped,
looking out on us with ineffable dignity, with sadness but with
confidence. Over His white robe He draws the darkness of our lack
of love, holding it to Himself, prepared to transform all sorrows
if we will let Him

DA VINCIS: THE LAST SUPPER
Slide 15
What do we see from the Apostles? What is Christ reaching
towards? Who is grasping the bag of silver? How does Leonardo Da
Vinci change his Last Supper from earlier images? How do they
describe Jesus?
It draws the viewer into the table-fellowship, displaying the
inclusive nature of the Kingdom of God as preached by Jesus. It
covers the end wall of a dining hall at the monastery of Santa
Maria della Grazie in Milan, Italy.
Slide 20
Leonardo chose to capture the moment in which Jesus announces
to the apostles that he knows one of them will betray him. The
apostles are captured in their sense of astonishment immediately
after this announcement. Leonardo's depiction of Christ as the
focal point in perspective and in the form of a triangle, symbolic
of the Trinity, shows that he is calm.
Slide 21
The dominant position of Christ is emphasized by the empty
space around him. The background doorway frames his figure against
the view of the countryside as his hands point silently to the
bread and wine. His glance follows this direction and places
emphasis on the orderly arrangement of the objects on the table
before him.
Slide 22
To the left and right of him objects immediately fall into
disarray. Thus Leonardo provides the space before the Lord as a
symbol of the sacred action Jesus is ready to accomplish - offering
himself as a sacrifice in the form of bread and wine. Leonardo kept
Judas within the company of his fellow Apostles within his
depiction.
Slide 23
Leonardo portrays Judas as recoiling from Jesus. He is the only
figure whose face is lost in the shadow, a subtle indication that
he is lost from the light of Christ. He is also the only individual
other than Christ to not be portrayed in the wave of emotion that
seems to increase from left to right in the painting in an attempt
to symbolize his guilt.
