Students will:

Create a persuasive letter that will be used to raise funds for the schools annual Terry Fox Run

Be able to organize a text within a pre-determined structure

Extend written letters to the public domain.

Review homework from last class (Students had to fill out “Hello, Terry Foxers” sheet at home with family)

Have students share their answers

Watch “I am Terry Fox” video

Inform students of Persuasive Writing activity

out their template and begin writing their rough draft

have students hand in rough draft paragraph for teacher to mark, this will be handed back next class for students to correct.

Explain that the final draft will be put on a pledge sheet with school heading for kids to distribute around their neighborhood to collect pledges

+Adaptations For students with IEP designated difficulties with written output, students may create a persuasive poster for the annual Terry Fox Foundation contest as opposed to the paragraph.

Assessment

At the end of the class students will submit their paragraph drafts for the instructor to mark and hand back next class.

Students will then make the corrections and submit their final copies to the instructor to be formatted onto a pledge sheet.
