matters; it’s who’s around it. If your loved one has been called Home,

look up at the stars. May your heart be comforted.

On October 8, 2020, The Reproductive

Freedom Act (RFA) S3030 was introduced in

the New Jersey State Senate and was referred

to the Senate Health, Human Services and

Senior Citizens Committee. If passed, the RFA

would codify into New Jersey law the findings

of Roe v. Wade, meaning that abortion would

remain legal in New Jersey even if the case

were overturned by the Supreme Court. The

RFA would also strip safeguards and

regulations on the abortion procedure, making

New Jersey a more dangerous place for wom-

en and their unborn babies. The Assembly

companion bill is A4848.

The Diocesan Office of Human Life & Dignity

has been working closely with the New Jersey

Catholic Conference (NJCC) on this issue to

develop resources and monitor the bill. Here is

the link to NJ Catholic Conference's updated

Reproductive Freedom Act resource page:

https://njcatholic.org/reproductivefreedomact.

Please check this website frequently for

updates. Also, please make sure to sign up on

the above website to receive action alerts.

A webinar has been recorded which focuses on

providing an overview of the legislation, an

update on the bill's legislative status, and

suggestions on action steps people can take at

this time. This is something you can use to

help educate family, friends and fellow

parishioners. You are encouraged to watch it

so you can understand the radical nature of this

measure. The link is here: https://

Dear Parishioners,

We are so close to Christmas, in The Gospel Today, the Fourth and last Sunday

ofAdvent, the Liturgy wants to prepare us forChristmas, now at the door, by inviting

us to meditate on the Angel’sAnnunciationtoMary. The Archangel Gabriel reveals to

the Virgin the Lord’s will that she become the mother of his OnlyBegotten Son: “you

will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be

great and will be called the Son of the Most High” (Lk 1:3132).

In front of the altar we have the Annunciation scene. Look at this little girl from

Nazareth. She holds in her heart two important ways for us to celebrate Christmas.

First of all she is filled with faith. She does not know what the future will hold but it is

enough for her to say yes to God. She abandons herself to God and becomes totally

available to his plans. She is totally aware that she is loved by God and she loves God

more than anything. In the moment the angel speaks to her…. like a tiny whisper...

Another way she teaches us how to celebrate Christmas is in her prayer life.

God revealed to her his plan. The picture above shows Mary alone deep in thought and

prayer.

Pope Francis is honoring St. Joseph in a special way this year. He was the humble

hidden worker, very much in the background. He is like the many essential workers

that toil and perhaps may go unrecognized. In this time of pandemic, we are grateful

to those who daily put their lives at risk, protecting life, as Joseph did.

The example of Mary and Joseph is for us all an invitation to accept, with total

openness of spirit, Jesus, who for love made Himself our brother. He comes to bring to

the world the gift of peace: “on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased” (Lk

2:14), as the choirs of Angels proclaimed to the shepherds. The precious gift of Christ-

mas is peace, and Christ is our true peace.

Let us entrust ourselves to the intercession of our Mother and of St. Joseph in order to

experience a truly holy Christmas, free of all worldliness, ready to welcome the Savior,

Godamongus.

Merry Christmas, Fr. David
