It was our pleasure to celebrate earth day which marks the anniversary of the modern environmental movement on April 22nd 1970. This movement has grown into a global event recognized by 192 countries. School of Architecture and Planning devoted a special day to help the earth in a way to demonstrate how much we care about the future of our planet. Deans, faculty members and students from all the schools attended the event. Our program included a Rabindranath Tagore song was sung by our dean Prof Chhabi Mishra in her melodious and mesmerising voice, a

beautiful dance performance by second year student Upasana Sharma, followed by a play “A MIME” based on environment protection. The play started with beautiful natural environment where we have abundance of vegetation, water and fresh air. The characters in the role play depicted how human intervention has polluted the natural which in turn affects our mother earth and causes health hazards.

Let’s join our hand together in the movement to save our mother earth. We need to recycle reuse reduce wastage etc. Let’s also encourage our friends and family to join hands, one of the way we can contribute is to plant trees and get to know them. SoAP organized a NATURE WALK to take everyone around to show the trees in campus and their properties.

Green building - Green futureBy Megha Bisht (Ist Year B.Arch)

More development means more buildings and infrastructure, which has significant amount of contribution in polluting the environment. We have brought mother nature at a critical point because of development. Now we need a green solution which is green building. Green architecture means to build that kind of building that minimizes harmful effects on human health and the environment. A green building is one which uses less water, optimizes energy efficiency, conserves natural resources and generates less waste as compared to a conventional building. sFor a better future, architects need to build more green buildings which should not harm our environment. The main concept of green building is to increase building efficiency and reducing building impacts on human health and the environment through better site selection, design, construction, operation, maintenance and removal throughout the complete life cycle. Green building materials are composed of renewable, rather than non renewable materials. It depletes very little of the natural resources during construction and operation. Green buildings are designed to make environment healthier and more enjoyable working environment. If the workplace environment gets improved it will help in the developing the knowledge of workers and may also reduce stress which ultimately is the big reason for developing of any country. The reason for developing is to make one’s society more advance in every aspect but if the society is not healthy there is no purpose for developing, so every society needs green buildings. Because of green buildings now we are able to reduce energy and water consumption without sacrificing the comfort level. Better lighting quality including more daylighting harvesting and use of shading which control over light levels. Green building can be blessing for a fast developing country which will help country to develop more effectively and the architects can make this possible easily.
