Message from the Principal

Dear Milwaukie / El Puente Community,

It is hard to believe that we are already a month into school! I want to thank you for a wonderful start of this school year. I met many of you at Back To School Night, and I appreciate the daily opportunity to greet you in the morning and listen to your ideas and concerns. Your input is helping our team make our school a welcoming learning environment built on positive relationships with our staff, families and students.

Our staff's main focus for the last few weeks has been establishing routines and building community. Readers’ Workshop is also well on its way, and differentiated Math instruction will begin soon. A new bus dismissal procedure has been put in place, as well as an increased supervision plan during recess. Playworks Team Up is also at our school this year, with Coach Ruby and Ms. Mo running the program (with the help of our Junior Coaches, of course!).

Please continue to feel free to reach out or stop by should you have any ideas, questions or concerns. We are fortunate to have such a dedicated staff and community working together to support every student in our building, and I am grateful every day because I get to be the principal at Milwaukie/El Puente.

Estimada comunidad de Milwaukie / El Puente,

¡Es difícil creer que ya hemos estado un mes en la escuela! Quiero agradecerles por un maravilloso comienzo de este año escolar. Conocí a muchos de ustedes en la Noche de Regreso a la Escuela, y aprecio la oportunidad diaria de saludarlos por la mañana y escuchar sus ideas y preocupaciones. Su aporte está ayudando a nuestro equipo a hacer de nuestra escuela un ambiente de aprendizaje acogedor basado en relaciones positivas con nuestro personal, familias y estudiantes.

El enfoque principal de nuestro personal durante las últimas semanas ha sido establecer rutinas y construir una comunidad. El Taller de lectores también está en camino, y la instrucción matemática diferenciada comenzará pronto. Se ha implementado un nuevo procedimiento de despido de los autobuses, así como un plan de aumento en supervisión durante el recreo. Playworks Team Up también está en nuestra escuela este año, con la entrenadora Ruby y la Sra. Mo dirigiendo el programa (¡con la ayuda de nuestros entrenadores junior, por supuesto!).

Tardy? Student check-in is located in the office as

you enter the building.

Students must check in with the secretary, make their lunch choice and receive a

tardy slip before going to class. Students should be in the classroom, ready to learn at 7:40 am. Thank you for getting your kids

to school on time!

Dear Milwaukie/El Puente Families, I would like to reiterate the importance of participating in the current effort to collect feedback from you regarding North Clackamas Schools’ application for state funding via the Student Success Act (SSA). Specifically, NCSD is employing a new online tool called Thoughtexchange to collect input from students, parents/guardians, staff, and community members about how the district is performing. All parents/guardians should have received an email with an invitation to participate and help answer the question, where is NCSD doing well and where does NCSD needs to improve?For more information on NCSD’s application for state funding and how Thoughtexchange works, please click here. Upcoming events:

Sept 30 Jog-a-thon envelopes are sent into school

without any money to tally pledges. They will be

returned the same day to continue collecting

pledges.

Oct. 18 Jog-a-thon Wear your class color, volunteers

can dress in class colors too!

Oct 25 is Movie Night in the gym popcorn is

provided, all are welcome.

Oct 25 Box Tops are due, watch for a flyer to come

home soon.

Oct 28 Jog-a-thon envelopes are due with ALL

money included, final day to be considered for

prizes.

Getting ready for our remodel! A contractor has been assigned to our project, and I will be meeting weekly with him to outline schedule,and be updated on project status and plans for next steps. While I am at these weekly meetings, Sid Ong will be on site to support our school. Sid is a retired administrator familiar with our school (he was here already this last Thursday!) and the bond process.Information regarding our rebuilding will be shared with you via newsletter, and will be posted on our website,You can also check the district bond website for Milwaukie /El Puente for updates. Safety Information

Students are to be dropped off and

picked up using the drop off-lane in

the front of the main entrance.

Parents should never park in or block

the drop off lane, especially at arrival

and dismissal time. Parents must

remain in their cars and never leave

their vehicles unattended in these

locations.

● Do not park in parking lot to drop

off/pick up students during bus

hours 7:00AM-8:00AM and

1:45 PM-2:30 PM school days
