The Significance of Hospitality Industry to the UK
Almost everywhere you go in the UK a business can be found that is connected with the hospitality industry.
Over 10% of the country’s consumer spending is in the hospitality industry. That’s in excess of 50 billion pounds!
1.64 million people employed in industry in UK. (6% of workforce)
Probably the world’s largest employer in the world, employing one in ten people worldwide
Food Quantities Needed in the London Olympic Village 2012:

◦ The quality or disposition of receiving and treating guest and strangers in a warm , friendly and generous way.

Catering – Providing with food and drink
Structure of the industry Split into two main categories:
Commercial Sector - money (profit) making main purpose for the business
Public Service Sector (non commercial non profit ) specially for
providing hospitality and catering.
Three main operations:
1. Catering – Food and Drink 2. Accommodation – beds 3. Leisure – activities
