THE LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING Sirach 3:2-6, 12-14 RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 128 Cantor, then All: Michel Guimont

SECOND READING Colossians 3:12-21 ALLELUIA James Chepponis

GOSPEL Matthew 2:13-15 HOMILY CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

(all bow through “and became man”) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

Page 5: Men’s Group Our Lady’s Rosary Makers Parish Finance Council Parish Pastoral Council Prayer Chain Religious Education Sandwich Ministry St. Bernadette Guild St. Monica Mom’s

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,

who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

The primary purpose of the Feast of the Holy Family is to present a model for Catholic families to imitate and follow. There are many elements involved with striving to be a holy family. I recently found several quotes online which I share with you today. These insights are worth reflecting upon as we work to build up and honor marriage and family life.

“Do not be afraid, open wide the doors to Christ!” – Pope St. John

Paul the Great The pope encourages us not to be afraid and to let Christ into our life, to let Him work in us as individuals and together as a family, with no reservations.

“Love is not a feeling; it's a decision.” - Mother Angelica In marriage, as in the family, there are many times when loving the other is not an easy task. This can often be a supernatural graced decision and not a feeling. Christ loves us unto death and so in the family as in marriage we are constantly asked to make the same decision to truly love one another.

“There is no greater force against evil in the world than the love of a

man and a woman in marriage.” - Cardinal Raymond Burke In a world where love is constantly redefined to suit the latest trend and where life is under constant threat, the creative love of marriage naturally belongs to a man and a woman united in holy matrimony. This is key in the defeat of evil.

“A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go

against it.” - G.K. Chesterton As a practicing Catholic family, going against the stream seems all we ever do. But what is important is for children to understand that we are not going against the crowd just to be rebellious. Instead, what has been entrusted to us is far more precious than what the world has to offer. “Waste time with your children so that they can realize that love is

always free.” – Pope Francis Kids need parents to simply “be” with them. Pay attention to them, to sit down on the couch to watch a silly cartoon with them, kneel down on the floor and have a cuddle, go out for a 5 minute walk around the block. They just need mom and dad to “be” with them.

“Do small things with great love.” St. Teresa of Calcutta It is in the ordinary events of daily life and daily service to my family that I receive the grace to clearly experience the joy and greatness of God’s plan for me.

Wishing all of you a blessed Feast of the Holy Family, I remain,

Sincerely yours in Christ

Father Darrin Connall Rector

First Friday

This coming Friday, January 3rd, is First Friday and a day to honor the Sacred Heart of Jesus. In an appearance to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, Our Lord promised that whoever receives Holy Communion on nine consecutive First Fridays will receive specific blessings. Among these blessings are the gift of final perseverance and the promise to receive the last sacraments before death. Plan on joining your fellow parishioners this Friday at Noon Mass.

Please note: due to a lack of available people to be in the church, adoration will be for one hour only (from

12:30 pm to 1:30 pm) with benediction at 1:30 pm.
